Gaurav Gupta was born on Wednesday, January 17, 1979 (age 44 years 2023) from New Delhi. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. He studied at Dhaula Kuan Springdales School, New Delhi. Growing up, he was a very creative kid. He enjoyed painting, sculpture and dance, but did not do well academically. He said in an interview,
Art was an outlet for me; I started studying sculpture in eighth and ninth grade. I was in awe of the art of sculpture making and still am… My most memorable report card was in 6th grade when I actually failed math and science but got an A+ in art. “
Eventually, he became studious and was an honor student most of the time, scoring a 90 in grade 12. He was born into a family with no artistic inclination. In an interview, the designer talked about his sources of fashion inspiration without mentioning any magazines or family members who worked as tailors. Instead, he said:
It’s painting, imagining, daydreaming. All of this is the true beginning of the creative thinking process. It’s just like getting lost in the flowers and grass, being a stupid kid who doesn’t understand anything. I just put on my thick glasses and thought, what is going on in the world? “
Gupta’s fashion journey began in 1997 at fashion school. After graduating from India’s National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in 2000, he worked for a while before studying at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, England. In 2001, he studied for a bachelor’s degree in women’s fashion. After graduating from this prestigious course in 2003, he was unable to obtain a work visa, so he returned to India and launched his eponymous brand in 2004.

Gaurav Gupta shares a bungalow in New Delhi with her boyfriend, GQ fashion director Vijendra Bhardwaj, and poet and author Navkirat Sodhi. Gaurav’s fashion shows feature lighting design, sculpture, immersive theater and experiential poetry. Gaurav’s art installation “Infinity Tunnel” was included in Santati, a traveling art exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The exhibition debuts at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai.
