The 73-year-old music legend John Farnham has revealed he is battling cancer, only months after losing his closest friend Glenn Wheatley. According to Wheatley’s widow, Gaynor Wheatley, “(John’s wife) Jill is phenomenal” and “they are going surprisingly well.”
She has really kept us all together with her updates and fortitude, and I’m extremely grateful for that. “Her strength is something I have taken great comfort from today,” I said. Wheatley has been a rock for the Farnham family, assisting Jill, the wife, and their two sons, James and Robert, as well as friends, admirers, and coworkers during this trying time.
“John would be overjoyed to see all the support for him. It’s strange that he would be startled, she remarked. He doesn’t think of himself as a legend or as being particularly remarkable, so I’m eager to show him today how well regarded he is.
“He is one of the greatest performers we have ever had in Australia,” said the speaker, “despite my limited experience in the music industry.” Lisa Edwards, a beloved Farnham backup singer, said to A Current Affair that she is “devastated by the news” of his cancer diagnosis.
Edwards added, “All I can do is just offer my love and healing energies to John, Jill, Robert, James, the extended families, and all the fans. Farnham stated in a statement today that “countless others have walked this path before me” and that “cancer diagnosis is something that so many people face every single day.”
The fact that the family has not provided an update on his state following today’s surgery is positive in Wheatley’s eyes. “Nothing at the time, sorry. I believe that there is currently no good news to report. He’s holding on tight there and handling this situation extremely well, she said.
