Gene Simmons Says Kiss Is Done Performing After Final Farewell Tour Show: ‘My Hand on the Bible’

Gene Simmons is preparing to take the stage with Kiss one last time.

During the interview with Rolling stone on Wednesday, the Kiss frontman announced that their final show on the Kiss End of the Road tour, scheduled for December 2nd, will certainly be their last.

“My hand on the Bible,” he told the newspaper. “And I should know because my people wrote that book. In fact, my people also wrote the book that follows, the New Testament. And so I’m going to say right here, right now, with my hand on the Bible, that will be the last Kiss-in -makeup appearance.”

Simmons, 74, also spoke about the emotional impact of the tour coming to an end.

“When I was a kid going to school, my nickname was Mr. Spock. I never liked emotions and things like that. I remember my uncle George, who I loved very much. I remember standing over his grave and being sad, but I didn’t cried. Tears don’t come easily to me,” he explained.

“But a few times when I look out into the audience I see a 50+ fan who’s been with us since he was a kid, wearing Kiss makeup. And next to him is his late 20s/early 30s son in makeup and on his shoulder his son’s grandson is sitting, five-year-old, six-year-old, all the same, with make-up.”

He continued, “And that little kid held up my hand, with two horns and a thumb out, which actually means ‘I love you’ in sign language, and stuck his tongue out for the first time. Well, that gets me every time.”

The rocker was also asked if there is a possibility of a one-off performance in the future.

“Paul has his band Soul Station. I’m sure he’d love to play some shows. I have Gene Simmons’ band. At some point, I might want to jump on stage and sing some songs,” he said, adding that in the future he would be open to solo tour. “But the physicality of being in Kiss says this is the right thing, in the right place, at the right time. Because BB King played until his late 80s. He sat on stage. We can’t do that. Don’t don’t sit down.”

Earlier this month, Kiss announced that their final show, which will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York, will be broadcast live on pay-per-view.

According to a press release, the final stop of the band’s remaining 25-date leg of their The End of the Road tour will air exclusively on PPV.com so fans around the world can follow the concert in real time, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. While no additional details have been revealed, it “promises to be a massive event,” according to the post.

To stream the show live, fans in the US and Canada pay a one-time fee of $39.99 instead of subscribing. (Internationally, the event costs $14.99 to watch.)

The band, which includes Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer, began their farewell tour back in 2019, before taking a hiatus from live shows due to the pandemic. The group “Detroit Rock City” has since had its send-off across North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.

In the spring, the heavy metal legends announced that the final leg of The End of the Road Tour will begin this fall and end in NYC, where five decades ago they began what has become their storied career of numerous hit songs and stadium tours.
