Despite her character’s affinity for the series’ adversary, Angelson told TV Line that Gladys Wheeler is not a “evil man.”

She continued, saying:

“I couldn’t say, ‘I’m playing a horrible man,’ because I was playing Mrs. Wheeler. ‘I’m portraying someone who is prepared to do everything to save the human race, and that’s what we’re up against,’ I had to explain. So, do I really want to be the person I am? Perhaps not. But I accept it as my reality, and that is what I am doing. That’s how I got away with it.”
