George Clooney Refutes Report Claiming He and Brad Pitt Were Paid $35 Million Each for Wolfs

George Clooney is denying a recent report that claimed he and Brad Pitt were paid a huge sum to star in their new movie Wolves.

While speaking alongside Pitt at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday, September 1, ahead of the thriller’s world premiere, Clooney addressed the recent The New York Times article in which sources claimed the duo were paid “more than $35 million each” for their work.

“[It was] interesting article and whatever her source for our salary is, it’s millions and millions and millions of dollars less than what was posted. And I’m only saying that because I think it’s bad for our industry if that’s what people think is the standard for wages,” Clooney said. “I think it’s terrible, it’s going to make it impossible to make movies.”

Clooney’s comments came amid debate over Apple’s decision not to Wolves wide theatrical release in the US, and instead opted to play it on a limited number of movie screens a week before the film was available on the company’s streaming service.

“Yes, we wanted it to be published [in theaters]”, said Clooney in Venice.

“We had some bumps along the way, that happens. When I did Boys in a boatwe did it for MGM and then it ended up going to Amazon and we didn’t get a foreign release at all, which was a surprise. There are elements of this that we are discovering. You are all in this too. We’re all in this industry trying to find our way after COVID and everything, so there are some difficulties along the way,” he added.

Clooney continued, “It’s a shame, of course, but on the other hand, a lot of people are going to see the movie and we’re getting a few hundred theaters, so we’re getting a release. But yeah, it would be nice to have a wide release.”

George Clooney says he and Brad Pitt ‘check in on each other’ when ‘things in life get complicated’

Pitt and Clooney recently spoke with GQ about reuniting on set — the pair famously starred together in Ocean’s trilogy, among other projects.

We’ve been friends for a long time, Clooney said. “It’s fun because we also check in on each other every now and then, which is an important part of this. Things get complicated in life and you always have to make sure everyone’s okay.”

Pitt said GQ he “knew [Clooney] since the ’90s,” and through which they “passed so much life in the moment and so many twists and turns.”
