George Jesse Hill Jr was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 4, 1986. He is 35 years old, American, and black. George is the only child of his mother, Catherine Smith, and his father, John William Hill, was an engraver. He attended Board Ripple High School and received numerous scholarship offers from top colleges, including Temple and Indiana.

He chose IUPUI to be near his grandfather, Gilbert Edison, who was eighty years old. His great-grandfather died just months after Hill decided to attend Indiana-Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI), so he never saw Hill play college basketball. He chose IUPUI over other opportunities. In his second season, Hill led the IUPUI Jaguars to a tie for the conference record. He was injured during a conference call and had to redshirt his junior year at IUPUI. He returned the following season and led the Jaguars to a school-record 26 wins.

Career

Despite having just one year of college left, Hill declared himself ready for the 2008 NBA draft. Then, after graduating from IUPUI as the sixth all-time leading scorer with 1,619 points, he became only the second IUPUI player to enroll early since Carlos Knox in 1997. Over the next two months, Hill worked out with other NBA teams.

On July 14, 2008, he scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in his first summer league game as a Spur. During the summer, Hill struggled with his shooting, hitting just 2 of 25 field goals and 1 of 6 three-pointers. In 2009, George spent most of his summer working on his playmaking talents with player development coach Chad Forcier and his jump shots with Spurs shooting coach Chip Engelland.
