Ghosts’ Danielle Pinnock Teases Long-Awaited Love Interest for Alberta: ‘It’s Been 100 Years, Baby’ (Exclusive)

Danielle Pinnock is excited for what’s next in season three Ghostswhich he promises is the “best” the cast has had “yet.”

“We’re doing big departures from what audiences expect from broadcast comedy,” the 35-year-old actress told PEOPLE at EssenceBlack Women in Hollywood Awards on Thursday. “We’re taking risks. I believe deep in my heart, this is our award-winning season.”

As for what’s in store for her character Alberta Haynes, a flamboyant Prohibition-era jazz singer who died from drinking poisoned moonshine, Pinnock revealed that fans can expect things to heat up as the season progresses.

“Alberta might fall in love,” he teases. “It’s been 100 years honey, we have to clear the cobwebs! Ghosts are in love and they find each other.”

She continues, “Sam [Rose Mclver] and Jay [Utkarsh Ambudkar] who are our guides — they really only bring life into our afterlife in the right way. I think people will like this season. It’s amazing.”

1st season Ghosts six episodes aired in 2021. In the American version of the paranormal sitcom, McIver plays the lead Samantha, a journalist who buys an old house to turn into a bed and breakfast. But Samantha soon learns that she is not alone in the house. It’s already home to a list of ghosts the living haven’t seen or heard of until Samantha moves in.

WITH Ghosts now in its third season, the show has received critical acclaim and support from fans and celebrities.

After learning of the show’s second season renewal in 2022, Mark Hamill expressed his excitement for the return of the “smart” and “quirky.”

“This IS a surprise to me (feels like everything I love is getting cancelled), but a WONDERFUL surprise indeed,” he tweeted in response to the show’s renewal announcement at the time. “[Ghosts] is a delight: smart, witty, whimsical, very funny with a BRILLIANT cast that is beyond perfection.”

Hamill, 72, ended the tweet with a congratulatory hashtag on the well-deserved renewal.

The Star Wars legend is not the only one who shares their love for the series.

Tara Reid, who was frequently called out by actor Asher Grodman’s ’90s stockbroker brother Trevor Lefkowitz, quoted the show after the pilot aired and even landed a guest star role in Season 2 Ghosts.

Speaking to PEOPLE in February 2023, Grodman recalled the moment he saw Reid’s tweet and ran to the show’s hosts to get her on the show.

“We’re all nerdy,” he continued. “And when I saw that, of course, part of me was like, ‘Yeah, this has to happen,’ but another part of me was like, ‘I can’t believe what a wild ride this series has been on, outside of the pandemic, of total isolation. and now we’ve made this show, and people are watching it and people want to be on this show.'”
