Ghosts stars tease how show will end – details

It’s time to give up the Ghost….or rather, the Ghosts. It will debut on October 6th – also known as spooky season – it sounds like we’re in for an emotional farewell.

Ahead of the series finale, the cast teased what’s next in new interviews with the BBC, and we couldn’t be more excited. Asked about Alison’s role in season five, leading lady Charlotte Ritchie said: “It’s a pretty big character. She’s taking a new step into the second phase of her life with Mike.

“This is the end of an era because there are more responsibilities involved. When something more serious happens to the two of them, it strangely sheds light on the life they lived with the Ghosts. It reveals a little how unsustainable it is. Day by day they thought about how to get until the next money to continue living there. Then all of a sudden it changes and for the first time they have to look much longer term. The time to play is almost over.”

Kiell Smith-Boyne, aka Mike, also echoed this sentiment. “The main development is that they [Alison and Mike] they think more about their life choices and what their future looks like.”

Asked if he thought now was the right time to end the series, Kiell replied: “I could have done another series! No, I think it’s good to be able to finish on a high and on my own terms, rather than having the channel say, ‘We’re not going to bring it back .’ It’s also great to be able to write an ending, so you feel like the story is finished, rather than going, ‘Oh, well, what happens next?’

While the cast has been pretty tight-lipped about plot details, the BBC has provided some details. “As we begin the series, as Alison and Mike look for new ways to keep Button House going after a fire in the gatehouse, they receive unexpected news that will bring big changes for them and the Ghosts,” the synopsis reads.

“Elsewhere, the Ghosts investigate the mysterious details of Kitty’s death, Pat is inspired to create some new entertainment for the gang when the Ghosts lose their appetite for the Food Club, and after Robin makes an unusual prediction, the Ghosts reflect on their legacy.”
