Gillian Anderson, 55, Shuts Down 2024 Golden Globes Red Carpet in Gown Featuring Vaginas: 'It's Brand Appropriate'

Gillian Anderson knows how to make a fashion statement.

The Sexual education The 55-year-old star hit the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards in a custom-made ivory strapless gown by Gabriela Hearst that she explained was embellished with vaginas.

“[I wore it] for many reasons,” said the actress Deadline female anatomy design, adding, “it’s appropriate for the brand.”

Inside, she told PEOPLE — after being hugged by Jennifer Garner — that the dress was floral-inspired, noting that she loved the fact that it was “covered in peonies!” According to the label, each motif on the dress took 3.5 hours to embroider.

Anderson accessorized the daring look with a host of Chopard jewels, including an 18k white gold necklace with a 10-carat yellow pear-shaped diamond and nearly 30 carats of diamonds, 18k yellow gold and 18k white gold earrings with four pear-shaped yellow diamonds totaling 15 carats diamonds and a pair of white diamonds totaling .50 carats and an 18k white gold bracelet with 13 carats of diamonds and an 18k yellow gold ring set with diamonds.

However, perhaps the most glamorous part of Anderson’s look was her hair. The actress let only a few strands of gray roots stick out from the crown, fully embracing the naturalness of her hair. The rest of her blonde hair was swept back and styled into a soft wave.

Her make-up was quite natural, with a soft smokey eye and pink lips.

Anderson is all about the balance of glamor and comfort. She may know how to rock a dress on the red carpet, but she also likes to dress up when she’s at home. Back in 2021, she did an Instagram Live Q&A with fans and openly shared her hatred of bras!

“I don’t wear a bra anymore. I don’t wear a bra. I can’t wear a bra. I can’t, no. I can’t,” Crown the star said when asked about her outfit during the COVID pandemic. “I’m sorry, but I don’t care if I get to my belly button, my breasts go up to my belly button. I don’t wear a bra anymore. It’s just too fucking uncomfortable.”

As for her outfit of choice, Anderson said she would wear “comfy” black sweatpants and a black hoodie “every day” if she could.

“[It’s] probably the same as my out-of-lockdown outfit,” the actress added. “I’m so lazy.”
