My father’s sister, Girjia Tickoo, was a librarian at a university. She went to collect her salary and on the way back her bus was stopped. What happened next still haunts me. Shaking, tearful and nauseated. My bua was then thrown into a taxi with 5 men (one of whom was her co-worker) who tortured, raped and then brutally murdered her by hacking her alive with a carpenter’s saw she. Imagine being the brother of Babli who had to admit that he was not at fault in this horrific battle of utter hypocrisy. So far I haven’t heard my family talk about it. “

She added,

My father told me that every brother lived in such shame and anger that they did nothing to get justice for my Babli Bua. I am blessed to be a part of @KOAYouth @KOAorg where I connect with the youth of the Kashmiri Pandit community and where we can share our past. I implore you all to watch The Kashmir Files and bring your friends and family along to watch it. “

A few years later, Girija Tickoo’s family moved to the United States. It later emerged that many other women had been tortured by the militants in the same way.
