Glenn Close reflects on her romantic roles.
While appearing on Watch what’s happening live on Thursday night, January 9, the 77-year-old actress participated in the popular segment of the series “Plead the Fifth.” Host Andy Cohen began by asking her, “Who’s the best on-screen kiss you’ve had?”
After closing her eyes for a moment, Close replied, “Robert Redford. In Natural.”
She went on to lament, “I only got to kiss him once,” prompting Cohen, 56, to reply, “Just one time?”
“No, no, we might have made it twice,” he said Fatal attraction the star responded, quickly adding, “But I kicked him out of my apartment in that movie too. But I’m done with him.”
Cohen then noted that she “got an Oscar nomination out of it,” referring to her Best Supporting Actress nod. The 1984 sports drama famously starred Redford, 88, as Roy Hobbs, a middle-aged baseball player who seemingly came out of nowhere to become a legendary hitter. Close played his girlfriend Iris Gaines, with whom he unknowingly had a son.

During the segment, Cohen also asked Close — who has been nominated for eight Oscars during her career — to say which of those performances she felt was most deserving of the golden statuette at the time. She immediately replied, “Everyone!” with laughter, eliciting applause and applause from the audience and give five stars to Bravo.

Her response was a cheeky nod to the fact that she has never won an Oscar, despite being recognized for her work in films such as Great cold, Mountain elegy and Dangerous connections. In 2021, when she tied with the late actor Peter O’Toole — who also had eight Oscar nominations and no wins — she addressed the much-publicized statistic.

“First of all, I don’t think I’m a loser,” she told The Associated Press. “Who’s the loser in that category? You’re there, you’re five people who have been honored by your peers for the work you’ve done. What’s better than that?”
She continued: “And I honestly feel like the press likes to have winners and losers. And then they say, ‘Who’s the worst dressed?’ And, you know, ‘Who gave the worst speech?’ Forget it. That’s not what it’s about.”
“I say, screw them!” she added jokingly.

When asked earlier that year about her lack of wins, she said that acting is not about awards for her.
“It’s beyond me,” she said of her elusive golden statuette during an interview with Pete Davidson for DiversityActors about actors. “I don’t know what to say to that. I just have to keep doing what’s good. Your work fulfills you, and it’s a process for me. It feeds my soul, but it’s really nice when other people like me.”
She added: “Maybe it would be cool if I never got it. I wouldn’t mind being kicked out when I’m old and drooling and have a gray wig to cover my bald head.”
