Golfer Billy Horschel Fends Off Wayward Alligator with Club at Tournament

Billy Horschel faced an unexpected competitor during his last stop on a PGA tour.

Viewers at The Cognizant Classic on Thursday, February 27, were shocked when the alligator passed the track – except Horschel, 38.

The unexpected scene happened just when Golfer finished his sixth hole at PGA National at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, his 15th hole of the day in the 1st round of the tournament, the Associated Press reports.

According to a news agency, Horschel went to the next teenager when he saw that the officer unsuccessfully chased his reptiles.

The video sharing the PGA Tour at X shows Horschel slowly approaching Gator as he walked the path.

Using a 60 -degree wedge blade, he knocked the gator to the side, causing it to turn immediately and return to the water.

“Oh yes, Billy! It’s a gator who gets Gator,” a man who speaks in the video could be heard, citing that Horschel was Alumnus of Florida University, whose mascot is Gator. The incident does not seem to be a phase of him while the first day of the event fired 5-and 66 years.

While talking to reporters afterwards, Horschel explained why he was not afraid of the alligator.

“Listen, as I say most people, I said, they are more afraid. Most of you will only come after you during the mating season, where they are a little aggressive. And then if you are around their nest when they have eggs,” he said. “Most of the time, they are fine.”

The athlete, who is originally in Florida, said he saw people communicate with gators from a young age.

“I grew up with my father as he grabbed his tail when they were on the side of the shore and pushed them into the water. I never touched the tail hand, but I did that with the club,” he said. “It’s not that big job.”
