John Daly is recovering after undergoing emergency hand surgery. On Tuesday, January 14, the 58-year-old golfer shared a photo of himself on his Instagram Stories lying in a hospital bed, giving a thumbs up with his left hand bandaged.
“Emergency arm surgery…thanks [it] it went great and Doc McClimans for taking care of me π― β€οΈβπ©Ήπ©Ή I’ll be back in the game in no time! ποΈββοΈ,” he wrote above the photo, where he tagged his location as Tampa, Florida.

Sharing the same photo on his Instagram Grid, he thanked his fans for “all the messages” and assured them he “should be hitting them again soon.” PEOPLE has reached out to Daly’s rep for comment.

The post received messages of encouragement from many of his famous friends and fans, including DJ Khaled, who wrote, “Bless you ππ½,” and Pat McAfee, who commented, “π£π£ GOD SPEED LEGEND.”
Daly has five wins on the PGA Tour, including the 1991 PGA Championship and victory at The Open in 1995.

The athlete, who is known for pulling out cigarettes on the golf course, recently competed with his son, John Daly II, at the PNC Championship in December. The father-son duo previously won the event, which features professional golfers playing with a family member, in 2021.

His surgery comes months after he revealed he had lost his home to Hurricane Helena in October.
“I’m glad everyone is healthy, that’s the most important thing. You live in Florida, you have to understand that it’s going to happen, but not like this. I didn’t think it was going to be this bad,” he said during an interview with the PGA Tour.

This isn’t his first health scare either, as Daly revealed in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer.

In a September 2020 interview with Golf Channel, he vowed to continue regardless of his health diagnosis.
“I’m quitting, I’m really back on Diet Coke and I’m counting the minutes before I can light a cigarette. I’m trying to quit. The doctors don’t say it’s too late,” Daly said.

“Unfortunately, it’s a cancer that keeps coming back. But I’m going to listen to them and I’m going to try to quit smoking. If it comes back, it’s going to come back. Six months to a year, if not. Don’t go, I’m going to live my life, I’m going to have fun.” , he continued.
