Government of Puducherry to provide financial assistance to government school students taking admission in medical colleges

Medical Education in Puducherry

Puducherry Medical Education: Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has said that the territorial administration will pay full tuition fees for government school students who want to pursue undergraduate medical courses in the Union Territory (for the current academic year).

The CM asserted that students who have completed their education in government institutions and cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2023) are eligible for the programme. He also said that his government will ask colleges not to ask students to pay tuition fees as it will be borne by the authorities.

Students who will be admitted through the quota of 10% horizontal reservation

Government school students will be granted admission under 10% horizontal reservation quota to undergraduate medical courses here. The Centralized Admissions Committee (CENTAC) selects students for professional courses in the territory of the Union.

The Puducherry government’s request to implement the quota had already received the Centre’s approval earlier this month.

Meanwhile, A Anbalagan, AIADMK chief in Puducherry told the media that his party is lobbying the government to introduce 10% reservation in medical education for students attending government schools. He expressed gratitude to Rangasamy for fixing the quota.
