Everyone will know the name and style of Grace VanderWaal after her debut at the Cannes Film Festival!

The 20-year-old singer and actress — who shot to fame when she won American talent 2016 at the age of 12 — attracted attention at the premiere of her new film, Megalopolisin a mature look, reminding fans that she’s all grown up!

VanderWaal, who wanted to channel her character, Vesta Sweetwater, on the carpet wore a sheer wedding look consisting of a vintage Cinema by Panos Zinas gown styled by Janelle Best of Desert Star Vintage, a boutique in Brooklyn, New York.

The design featured a plunging V-neckline, a sheer bodice and a sheer skirt, both of which looked like they were covered in liquid gold thanks to the sequin detailing. The dress was completed with a custom floor-length couture veil embellished with gold leaf appliqués by NK Bride. A romantic headdress topped her elegant hair updo.

VanderWaal walked the carpet alongside her co-stars Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Chloe Fineman, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Voight.

Megalopolis was born out of director Francis Ford Coppola’s desire to make a film about a crumbling empire based on a moment in Roman history called the Catilinarian Conspiracy.

He began research for a Roman-inspired sci-fi film in the late 1970s after finishing Apocalypse today. And after many delays and false starts — including 300 script rewrites — and $120 million of Coppola’s own funds spent to get the project off the ground, the dystopian film finally premiered at Cannes on May 16.

Like her resume, VanderWaala’s style has evolved over the years as she’s matured her wardrobe from the cute pre-teen outfits fans knew her for.

She experimented with many aesthetics, from preppy-core to grunge-core. She’s also embraced the latter by transforming her signature golden blonde bob with different colors (including auburn and platinum blonde) and cuts, like the shaved head she sported in 2020.

Now VanderWaal seems to have come up with a sexy bohemian and flirty vibe that mostly consists of quirky dresses, daring suits and sexy mini dresses. And her big style moment at Cannes is just an indication of where her fashion sense is headed.
