Graham Nash makes it known: the days of Stills, Nash and Young playing together are long gone.
In the expansive new Rolling Stone interview, the legendary artist, 82, touched on the reasoning behind why he doesn’t “think me, Stephen Stills and Neil Young will ever play together again,” which he attributes to the death of David Crosby.
“There’s no heart there,” Nash told the magazine. “David was the center of everything, as crazy as he was. And my God, he was crazy. But he was the heart of this band. And that’s why I think if Stephen, Neil and I ever played together, people would miss Crosby. That would be a much cooler scene.”

Despite their sometimes tumultuous personal relationship, Nash and Crosby remained in touch until he passed away on January 18, 2023 after a “long illness,” his wife Jan said in a statement to Diversity at that time.
“I really miss him,” Nash said Rolling Stone. “I miss him more every day because life is about choices and I choose to just remember the good times David and I had, the good music we made together. When I try to think about the bad things that happened, no I don’t want to do that , I decided to remember only the good things.”
When asked if he believed the group would have reconciled if Crosby hadn’t died in 2023, Nash said: “Yeah, there’s no doubt about it. We emailed and he left me a voicemail and then I set up a FaceTime meeting with him because I wanted to look at each other while we were talking, and then I wasn’t feeling well, and he died a few days later.

The last time Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young took the stage together as a full band was in December 2015, but Stills and Young have been performing together as a duo since much later.
On October 5th, both legendary artists took the stage in Lake Hughes, California for a concert called “Harvest Moon” in support of The Painted Turtle Camp and The Bridge School. John Mayer also performed at the event.
Despite this, Nash remains the only living member of the group who constantly tours and performs the songs he composed as part of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, in addition to his solo discography.
“I want my audience to know two things. One, that I want to be out there making music for them. I’m not going to phone it in,” he said of the decision to do so. “I’m not going to do it half-assed. Second, I’m going to sing the same songs I’ve done a million times with the same passion I had when I wrote them. And I believe I owe that to my audience.”
