Greek cops had crucial CCTV footage of Dr Michael Mosley’s last movements ‘for four days’ before TV doc’s body was found

GREEK police have claimed to have CCTV footage showing Dr Michael Mosley’s last movements four days after he disappeared.

Video taken outside the bar shows the British TV star heartbreakingly close to the security of the Agia Marina resort and she is said to have been handed over to officers on Wednesday night.

The Sun has seen CCTV which showed Dr Mosley’s final movements – with the 67-year-old struggling on Symi’s rocky pitch.

He left his wife on the beach of St. Nicholas across the bay earlier that afternoon and later tried to make his way down to Agia Marina after getting lost in the hills for nearly two hours.

Grainy video shows TV documentaries descending towards the wall between the hill and the beach before sinking into the ground where his body was found four days later.

Greek police officers admitted they had seen the video, handed over on Wednesday after Dr Mosley was reported missing, Live News reported.

According to the outlet, officers claimed that it was difficult to identify his body in the video because it appeared to be a small dot.

It showed Dr Mosley, famous for popularizing the 5:2 diet and appearing on The One Show and This Morning, struggling at around 3.45pm.

The dad-of-four is thought to have ended up on the brutal journey in heat of at least 40C after taking a wrong turn in the town of Pedi at around 2pm.

His body was tragically found just 100 meters from the safety of a beach bar in Agia Marina – where he is believed to have died at around 4pm on Wednesday.

After an extensive four-day search his devastated wife Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, 67, said on Sunday: “He almost made it.”

DR MOSLEY’S LAST MOMENTS

The BBC star sat down on a mountainside and lost consciousness before she died, a coroner concluded today.

The position in which he was found – feet up on the rock with no outward signs of injury – suggests that Dr Mosley chose to lie down.

There was no indication he was hit in the head or collapsed while walking, police sources said.

The Sun saw the dad-of-four, 67, lying peacefully on his stomach.

Dr Mosley appears to have followed routine first aid advice used to prevent fainting.

The NHS website encourages people who feel weak to lie down with their legs elevated if they ever feel weak.

He walked for more than two hours and was found in a shaded place by the wall with his backpack off.

The path down the hill he was following appeared to be part of a hiking route, as the rocks were marked in blue and red.

But the route is unclear and very rocky with many dangers.

Symi police chief Dimos Kotsidaras said: “The cause of death appears to be heat exhaustion after walking in high temperatures from Saint Nicholas to Agia Marina.”

But there is no official cause of death yet as investigators must complete a full autopsy.

Rhodes Coroner Despina Nethen is said to have revealed that the condition of the body has so far made it impossible to identify it.

Agia Marina, the resort where it was found, is considered one of the warmest areas in the region.

Temperatures between Wednesday and Sunday, when he disappeared on the Greek island of Symi, sometimes exceeded 40C.

His last known sighting was in Pedi around 2 pm, which means he was on the mountain terrain for around an hour and 45 minutes.

Officers confirmed it was him after a second CCTV image – which showed Dr Mosley holding an umbrella near the Blue Corner bar in Pedy – was released on Friday.

90 SECONDS FROM SECURITY

Ed Southgate, Symi Greece

WHEN I walked from where Dr. Michael Mosley was found dead, it only took me 90 seconds to get to the resort.

He was so, so close to help, safety, shelter and water.

CCTV showed him zigzagging at the top of the perimeter at Agia Marina for around five minutes before making the grueling journey down.

A fence with an old gate is hardly visible around that point. Was he struggling to find the door or find his way down?

By that point, he had been walking in the intense heat for more than two hours.

After I too had walked to the gate and then back, I realized how strenuous this steep, mountainous path down was. I had to focus incredibly on each rocky step, and there is no clear path.

We may never know exactly what condition he was in.

Along the entire stretch, you can have a clear view of the beautiful Agia Marina — the restaurant, sunbathers, bathers.

It’s heartbreaking that they were just there, oblivious to him, and he couldn’t get to them.

A further shot then shows him leaving the city and heading towards the mountainous terrain.

The TV documentary mistakenly missed the left turn in Pedi that would have taken him to their accommodation in the town of Symi.

As a result, he ended up on a walking route that rescuers described as “treacherous” and “dangerous”.

Dr Mosley’s movements between when he was last seen in Paddy’s shortly before 2pm and when he was seen on CCTV taking his final walk towards the bar at around 3.45pm remain a mystery.

A massive search team spent four days desperately searching the island for him – including specialist teams, the fire brigade, the Red Cross and British volunteers.

By Saturday, the search was focused on the route to Agia Marina, with crews watching the rocky area above the dangerous underwater cave system known to locals as the Abyss.

A TRAGIC DISCOVERY

Dr. Mosley’s body was spotted on Sunday because of a flash on his watch, a witness claims.

Mayor Papakaloudoukas was accompanying a TV crew on board when they saw “something black” near the fence in Agia Marina.

A reporter on board said the glow from Dr. Mosley’s watch was also spotted on camera as they zoomed.

Bar manager Ilias Tsavaris was asked to go have a look – and said he also immediately saw “the glint of a clock”.

Sun reporter Ed Southgate was at the scene when the manager of a bar in Agia Marina said he saw something on the other side of a barbed wire fence nearby.

Ed peeked out and saw Dr. Mosley’s body, with a dropped umbrella nearby, and alerted the staff who called the police.

Symi Mayor Lefteris Papakaloudoukas said the island was “in complete shock” after Sunday’s discovery.

He said: “Everyone wanted to find him alive. It was difficult, very difficult and nobody thought we would ever find him where we were, so close to the beach.”

Dr Mosley’s wife Clare said on Sunday that he was a “wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband”.

Today, people came to the place where the star was found to lay flowers as a sign of respect.

Two men and a woman arrived at the rocky mountain shortly before noon and wiped tears from their eyes.

They crouched for almost 20 minutes and comforted each other on the other side of the wall from Agia Marina in Syma before leaving again by boat.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s office called the outcome of the desperate search “heartbreaking.”

The statement read: “In what must be deeply sad times, we have seen some incredibly moving tributes which have highlighted the huge impact Dr Mosley has had and helped to have on people and helped transform people’s lives for the better.

“He will be known as an extraordinary broadcaster who used his platform to influence and change the way we think about many public health issues.”

Calypso Haggett, CEO of The Fast 800 weight loss program, the intermittent fasting diet popularized by Mosley, described him as “a shining light for the whole team.”

They said his “incredible legacy” will “fuel a continuing movement for better health.”
