Gregg Wallace isn’t the only current BBC sexism scandal – but women are too scared to talk about the other outrage

11

I DON’T KNOW Gregg Wallace, but he is clearly a David Brent sexist pig at best, and possibly, if the false claims are true, much worse.

One person who almost certainly knows the truth is his longtime MasterChef co-host John Torode, whose silence is growing louder by the day.

But while I understand and sympathize with the cacophony of outrage from women over Wallace’s indefensible—as we’ve seen from his own appallingly awful attempts to dig holes to defend himself—behavior, I’m at the same time baffled by the lack of outrage from women over another equally indefensible sexist scandal that also currently running on the BBC.

Last week, our public broadcaster announced that their female footballer of the year was Zambian star Barbra Banda, despite the player being kicked out of the 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations for failing to meet the gender eligibility criteria for entry.

At the previous 2021 Olympics, Banda was found to have testosterone levels that exceeded the maximum allowed, and was subsequently reported to have refused hormone suppression therapy.

Banda’s BBC award win prompted former British sailing champion Tracy Edwards to rage at the “destruction of women’s sport” and her fellow ex-Olympian, swimmer Sharron Davies, to post on X: “So sad the BBC is actively encourages the destruction and loss of opportunities for female athletes in sports.

“I am so disheartened and disappointed that they are actively promoting this injustice.”

It also prompted long-time women’s rights campaigner JK Rowling to say: “Probably the BBC decided this was more time-efficient than going door-to-door spitting directly in women’s faces.”

But other than that, hardly any famous women have raised a concerned eyebrow about it, let alone some respectable woman on the BBC.

And now we learn that the BBC has named a Colombian transgender scientist, Brigitte Baptiste, in its annual list of 100 women for 2024.

The quote describes Baptiste as a “trans woman” who “explores shared patterns between biodiversity and gender identity” and uses a “queer lens to analyze landscapes and species in an attempt to expand the notion of ‘nature’ to better protect ecosystems”.

Gregg Wallace is the reason I ended my TV career, says Melanie Sykes – as she criticizes ‘unbelievable’ behavior on the set of MasterChef

This all sounds like complete nonsense to me, but even more senseless is the fact that the BBC denied a real woman the opportunity to appear on the list of the most powerful women of the year and instead gave the place to a biological man.

Why aren’t more women voicing their outrage at this horrific erosion of women’s rights to fairness and equality?

I’ll tell you why: fear.

A very famous Hollywood actress told me that she no longer speaks publicly about the trans issue, or even defines what a woman is when asked, because she hates the abuse and creepiness that inevitably follows on social media due to the awful torrent-load. .

I know many other women, including several of the BBC’s biggest stars, who feel exactly the same.

The hyper-aggressive trans lobby that races to harangue and dismiss any woman who dares to peek their head over this parapet are shamed and belittled for casual surrender.

So yes, I stand with the women who are outraged by the way Gregg Wallace has treated women and I applaud those who have finally spoken out after being too worried about the consequences for years.

But I ask those same women: why don’t you now find the courage to do the same about the way the BBC now actively celebrates the antithesis of what it means to be a woman in the first place?

Coleen Rooney is good-natured and down-to-earth

Coleen Rooney will win I’m a Celebrity.

First, because he is by far the biggest current celebrity out there.

And secondly, because she reveals herself as an incredibly sweet, down-to-earth, kind-hearted woman with a great sense of humor.

I laughed when the jungle campers were asked to place their orders for the automated treat machine, and while the others were asking for chocolate and crisps, Coleen suddenly said, “Bring us a bottle of vodka!”

It brought me back to the spectacularly funny and entertaining dinner I had with her and her husband Wayne, and my wife Celia, at the Soho House in Los Angeles.

It lasted four hours, involved copious amounts of alcohol, and both Rooneys were great company.

It was obvious that despite all their well-documented problems, their marriage was rock solid.

I’m a lot calmer now than I used to be, Wayne said. “I used to go out all the time, drink too much and get into trouble. Now I just like nice quiet time these days, no problems.”

Coleen agreed. “Wayne is a different man now, he really is.”

“What is the main reason?” I asked.

“It is,” he replied, looking lovingly at his wife. “Col knows me better than anyone.”

At midnight, when dinner was over, Wayne got up, tripped and crashed into our table, sending the wine bucket, two empty bottles, four glasses and two chairs flying.

Then he fell backwards, into a large nearby container of olives.

Coleen burst out laughing and helped him out of the pot and back on his feet.

“I think it’s about time we took you home to bed, don’t you Wayne…”

I woke up the next morning to see a tweet from Ms. Rooney saying that she and Wayne had a great time at Bootsy Bellows nightclub in West Hollywood.

It was posted at 5 am.

PRESIDENTIAL CALL

I HAD a missed call from Donald Trump last week and assumed he wanted to hire me as his new White House Communications Director.

But actually, when he wrote back, he said he was watching me on TV in America and thought I looked so great that he had to call and tell me.

I know, I know, it sounds utterly preposterous that the president-elect could take time out of his ridiculously busy schedule to compliment me on my aesthetic quality.

But it is, and hey, if the most powerful man in the world wants to do it, who am I to argue?

Even if it raises the immediate concern that his eyesight might be the same as Sir Elton John’s…

IT’S CALLED ACTING

I loved Rupert Everett trashing the modern scourge of supposed cultural appropriation in movies with activists demanding that only gay actors should play gay roles and bullying the likes of Scarlett Johansson into playing a trans character in Rub & Tug because she’s not trans herself .

As he said, the whole point of acting is for actors to play roles.

Did it matter that Tom Hanks wasn’t gay when he played a gay man in Philadelphia, the first major film about HIV/AIDS, and did it so well it won an Oscar, and shone such a massively important and effective global light on the killer disease?

It also affected the woke brigade, who have since attacked him for it so much that he now says he shouldn’t have accepted the role because there was a lack of authenticity in “a straight guy playing a gay guy”.

What a poppy.

Marlon Brando was no mob boss, but he played better than the real one in The Godfather.

Rock Hudson was one of Hollywood’s greatest romantic actors of all time, but he was also secretly gay.

Just let the actors do what they do best – acting!

TRIGGER POINT

The vicious character of the green face could cause discrimination

After the latest warning absurdity, in which the British Board of Film Classification issued a warning to the hit film Wicked due to potential discrimination against green-skinned women, I urgently need my own 24/7 warning system alerting me to any similar trigger warnings that have an immediate and harmful trigger effect on my spleen.

DO NOT APPLY AGAIN

I can’t pretend that I’m too upset that the infamous Groucho Club is closed, pending a police investigation into an alleged rape on the premises.

They once turned me down for membership, adding, “We don’t think it would be appropriate for you to apply again.”

Ironically, the behavior of the people they release seems too inappropriate for me to ever want.
