East Bengal 2000-2014

Gurpreet signed a professional contract with East Bengal Football Club in 2010. He made only 5 appearances in the 2009-10 season, and was later loaned to Indian Arrows (now Pinelands Arrows) for the 2010-11 season due to lack of game time. In 2011, he returned to East Bengal Football Club and started playing as the main goalkeeper after the 2011 Confederations Cup. In the 2011-12 season, he made his first start for East Bengal Football Club, but the team lost 0-1 to Churchill Brothers Football Club. He made his debut in the AFC Cup on March 6, 2012, against Al Oruba, which East Bengal lost 0–1. His last league match for East Bengal was against Manchester United SC on April 28, 2014, which East Bengal won 0-3.

Starback Football Club 2014-2017

On August 15, 2014, Gurpreet signed a three-year contract with Norwegian club Stabæk. He made his senior debut on 18 January 2015 in a friendly match against second-tier club Follo, which they won 4–1. Bengaluru FC 2017-

Gurpreet joined Bengaluru FC in August 2017. His club debut came in the knockout round of the AFC Cup against 25 April. He made his league debut with a clean sheet against Mumbai City FC. Gurpreet recorded seven clean sheets in his first season and helped his team reach the finals of the 2017-18 Indian Premier League, where they lost 3-2 to Chennaiyin FC. He signed a five-year contract with the club, extending his term until May 2023. In the 2018-19 season, Gurpreet kept seven clean sheets and helped the team win the 2018-19 Indian Premier League trophy.

In the 2019-20 season, Gurpreet topped the list with 11 clean sheets and won the Golden Glove Award. On November 5, 2009, Gurpreet made his debut for the Indian U19 team against the Iraq U19 team in the 2010 AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers. The first match of his Indian senior football team was against Turkmenistan in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Gurpreet’s first clean sheet came against Guam on November 12, 2015, when India won 1-0. Gurpreet was named in the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nepal, but was on the bench for both legs. In 2016, he captained the Indian national team against Puerto Rico.
