According to Small Claims Court Judge Yves Hamel, the plaintiff has sustained considerable psychological harm to date. Therefore, Judge Hamel concurs with Michelle Charron, who testified that Guy Cloutier assaulted her in a Montreal hotel room in 1977 while she was trying to break into the Quebec entertainment industry.
In September 2020, Ms. Charron, 65, submitted an appeal to the Court of Quebec’s minor claims division. She was requesting $15,000 for lost pay, emotional distress, and the end of her career.
When Michelle Charron first met Guy Cloutier in a Gatineau restaurant where she worked, she was only emerging from adolescence and had dreams of becoming an actress. The victim and the person who was René Simard’s manager at the time exchanged numbers.
“She claims that after speaking with him on the phone, she later ran into him in Montreal. According to Judge Hamel’s ruling from Tuesday, the plaintiff specifically states that the defendant is currently wooing her and promising her a successful creative future. Then Guy Cloutier made the decision to plan an advertising with Michelle Charron and musician Johnny Farago.
The victim, who was 19 at the time, was even called “the new darling of Quebecers” in an article written by the ex-impresario and published in the journal Échos Vedettes. The two met at a hotel room in Place Dupuis in Montreal, which was paid for by Cloutier, who was then 37, a week or so before the ad was recorded.

Ms. Charron testified in court in Montreal last February that she had to undergo multiple sessions with psychologists and psychiatrists as a result of the incident.
According to the magistrate, “the plaintiff attributes a significant portion of her drinking, consumption, and her significant psychological disorganisation at times to the sexual violence suffered in 1977.”
The 83-year-old Guy Cloutier skipped the trial. He only sent an affidavit in support of himself. It “is not sufficient to set aside or significantly weaken the detailed and consistent version offered by the plaintiff,” Judge Hamel found.
Because the court must “be able to assess [the defendant’s] seriousness, sincerity, accuracy and veracity,” according to the magistrate, “the Court grants little or no probative value to the defendant’s written evidence.”
