Gwen Stefani is no coward.
On Tuesday, Nov. 26, the “Cool” singer, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots sang her 2004 hit “Hollaback Girl” on classroom instruments — and they were indeed bananas.
Stefani, 55, aptly used a banana as a microphone. Fallon, 50, started with a kazoo and pounded on a drum. The Roots also performed with kid-friendly instruments and silver pom poms in hand to cue the lyrics.
The song was accented with hand-held xylophone, maracas, tambourine and clappers, creating a playful rendition of the beloved pop classic.
Fans took to the comments section and hailed the performance as iconic. Others thanked Stefani, who released her fourth studio album Bouquet Nov. 15, for help learning to spell “banana.” “Thanks to gwen we all know how to spell bananas BANANA!!!!” wrote one user.
“Every time I have to spell the word ‘bananas’ I sing this song to help me remember how many ‘nana’s there are in it,” added another.
“Thanks to this song many people have learned to spell bananas, thank you for the education Gwen,” said a third.
