Gwyneth Paltrow Takes Votes on Whether She Should ‘Go Gray’ After a ‘Lazy’ Summer Growing Out Roots

Gwyneth Patrow embraced her gray roots this summer and doesn’t seem to mind who notices.

In a candid Q&A session on her Instagram Story on Wednesday, Avengers: Endgame actress, 50, answered questions from fans, including one who asked: “Are they [you] growing to your natural gray hair? Which btw is beautiful.”

“I don’t know,” she replied with a smile, before admitting, “I was just being lazy over the summer.”

The Oscar winner, who appeared to be taking part in the Q&A session on Instagram from the comfort of her home, lowered her head towards the camera, hovering her device above the top of her head to give viewers a better look at her darker, gray-flecked roots.

“Do I need?” Paltrow asked alongside an on-screen poll, encouraging viewers to vote on whether she should “go blonde” or “stay blonde”.

“Do you guys think I should go gray or keep my locks?” she asked again.

This isn’t the first time Paltrow has shown off her gray roots. The Goop founder showed a hint of silver on the red carpet of the 2020 Golden Globe Awards, where she was with her husband, American Horror Story produced by Brad Falchuck.

In July, Paltrow, who is the mother of daughter Apple Martin (19) and son Moses Martin (17) with ex-husband Chris Martin, told British Vogue she believes women should embrace aging, but admitted there is a “double standard” for men and women when it comes to aging.

“As women, we want to be healthy. We want to grow old,” she said, trans British Vogue. “This idea that we’re supposed to be frozen in time is so weird.”

Noting that gray hair should be something women embrace rather than try to hide, Paltrow continued: “I love hearing someone like Andie MacDowell, with her beautiful gray curls, talk about embracing aging and the difference between how we deal with George Clooney [compared to how most women are perceived]. It’s nice to go gray [as a man], but for women it’s like, ‘What do you plan to do about your wrinkles and aging skin?’ There is definitely a double standard.”

Gray hair wasn’t the only topic of conversation during the Instagram Q&A. Paltrow also asked how one can stop seeking validation by seeking out unhealthy relationships.

“What we really want to do is go in and make really deep friends with ourselves, and there’s a lot of ways to do that,” Paltrow noted before showing off the cover of the self-help book Tools by Phil Sstutz and Barry Michels.

“This book is an amazing way to get really practical tools,” Paltrow said. “I think it is one of the most useful books I have ever read.”
