Gypsy-Rose Blanchard Describes Initial Breakup with Ken Urker: 'It Devastated Me'

During the second episode Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has opened up about her initial 2019 breakup with ex-fiancé Ken Urker.

While driving from Missouri to Louisiana during the episode — which was filmed in late 2023 — Blanchard tells her husband Ryan Scott Anderson that her ex-fiancé Ken Urker texted her stepmom Kristy to say he’s happy Blanchard is out of prison.

“And of course, Kristy informed you about it,” Anderson replies, later adding, “Too late, my friend.”

Blanchard then explains how she and Urker dated for two years, beginning in 2017, while she was in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the death of her mother, Dee Dee.

“Even though he was in the free world and I was in prison, this was my first real relationship that was long-lasting,” Blanchard says of Urker during the episode. “Right before we were going to get married, he broke up. It devastated me. I think he pretty much gave me every breakup in the book.”

Blanchard married Anderson in a prison ceremony in July 2022 and was released from prison early in December 2023.

Although she and Anderson initially seemed happy together, three months after her release from prison Blanchard announced that the couple had separated.

“People have been asking me what’s going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a divorce and I’ve moved home with my parents down the bay. I have the support of my family and friends to help me get through this. I’m learning to listen to my heart now I need time to find… who I am,” she wrote in a statement previously obtained by PEOPLE from her private Facebook account.

Shortly after the split, in April, Blanchard met her ex-fiancé Urker for lunch and got a tattoo with him. The following month, she confirmed that she and Urker were back together, calling him her “first love”.

In the midst of her breakup, “Ken was that support for me when I was going through this emotional difficulty of crying, and then I was fine and then I cried,” Blanchard previously told PEOPLE. “That’s when I allowed myself to open up to the feelings I’ve always had for Ken. Those feelings just don’t die.”
