Halle Berry Reflects on The Flintstones' 30th Anniversary, How Role Was a 'Big Step' for Black Women

Halle Berry remembers how much filming she did The Flintstones shaken.

The Oscar winner reflected on her performance as Miss Stone in the 1994 film in an Instagram video, noting that her role was a “big step” for black women in the entertainment industry.

Even though she said she didn’t see it The Flintstones in 20 years, Berry, 57, was excited to see the film again, and fans kept texting her about it.

“Being black in Bedrock seemed like a small thing, but, you know, The Flintstones was the fabric of our culture,” thought the actress.

She added, “I knew this was a big step forward for black people, especially black women.”

Berry played Fred Flintstone’s (John Goodman) seductive secretary, Sharon Stone, in the live-action remake of the 1960s cartoon series.

The real-life Sharon Stone was reportedly set to portray the eponymous character, but couldn’t due to scheduling conflicts. Berry was cast instead.

The Cloud Atlas the actress said in her video that it was important to have a black character in it The Flintstones live action film and realized its impact.

She continued, “Even though it was silly, and it was over the top and campy, I knew then how important this small role in this big movie was going to be.”

Along with Berry and Goodman, 71, The Flintstones he starred Rick Moranis, Rosie O’Donnell, Elizabeth Perkins and Kyle MacLachlan, as well as Elizabeth Taylor in her final film role.

Berry was delighted to revisit the comedy to celebrate her milestone, including the fame of her “iconic” short haircut, which would become her trademark throughout the 1990s.

“Every year you send me messages about the movie The Flintstones so I thought I’d do something special for the 30th anniversary 🦴 🤍,” she captioned her Instagram video.

Berry concluded, “I love you all for loving Miss Stone all this time.”
