Hana Zagorova Passed Away At The Age Of 75

Hana Zagorova, a famous singer and actress, died on August 26 at the age of 75. From 1977 to 1985, she received the Zlaty Slavik national music award nine times. Hana has been suffering from various health issues since her battle with Covid-19 in September 2020. After her health condition worsened, all of her shows and performances were canceled in August 2021.

Hana Zagorova, born on September 6, 1946, was 17 years old in 1963 when she competed in the Hledame nove talente singing competition. She also attended the Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where she graduated with honors in acting. Hana then began appearing on television in the late 1960s. She sang in Sodoma-Gomorrah and recorded her debut album Bludick with the Vaclav Zahradnik Orchestra. From 1972 to 1974, she performed as Bludick in the Semafor Theater, where she became famous. After that, she started playing with the Italian singer Drupi at performances in and around Czechoslovakia.

During the 1980s, Hana was featured in her music TV program, Dluhy Hany Zagorove. She became famous in Poland, Germany and the Soviet Union, and worked with a number of artists. She also played the lead role in The Hit, a 1980 musical film. From 1980 to 1986, she shared the stage with Peter Kotvald and Stanislav Hlozek. Zagorova recorded seven more albums with composers such as Petar Hapka. In June 1989, she signed Charter 77, which called for the release of political prisoners and freedom of expression.

In 1991, she joined Karel Wagner’s Multisonic and traveled abroad. But already the following year, she began to reduce her professional work, claiming that she sang what she was supposed to sing. She started producing scripts for TV programs and her show Kdyz nemuzu spit ran from 1993 to 1998. She started touring in 1996 and has since released two albums with her husband Stefan Margit. Ja?, her last album, was released in 1998. She continued to tour and released three more albums in the 2000s, as well as a collection of poetry titled Graceful Years in 2006.

In 2007, Zagorova appeared in the musical Jack the Ripper, and then Mona Lisa. She sold around 10.5 million copies and launched her second album, Vyznani, in 2014, receiving a Supraphon Diamond Record. On the occasion of her 70th birthday in 2016, she appeared in Lucerne and released her best-selling album O Lasce. Ja nemam strach was her next album.
