Hannah Waddingham’s Daughter Made Her 2024 SAG Awards Purse Out of Cardboard: She ‘Wanted to Contribute’

Hannah Waddingham looked as glamorous as ever for the 2024 SAG Awards.

But Ted Lasso star’s red carpet look had one extra special accessory that she hasn’t carried with her at any other awards before: a handbag handmade by her daughter.

Waddingham (49) carried a cardboard clutch bag with her for the ceremony on Saturday night, and it was decorated with plenty of rainbow colors. It also had the word “epic” written all over it — the perfect word to describe the actress’ Tony Ward Couture look for the night.

Her deep red off-the-shoulder dress featured a thigh-high slit and a long train, and she accessorised with just a few pieces of jewelery to keep the attention away from her gorgeous handbag.

“My daughter wanted to contribute, so she made me a bag,” she said at Netflix’s red carpet preview of her 9-year-old daughter and her artwork. She showed host Elaine Welteroth the art of bag making as they bonded over motherhood.

Of the glitz and glamor of awards season, Waddingham added: “It’s all great except this [being is a mom] is the most important.”

“My primary function is being a single mother,” she said. “Mom guilt is real, but I keep telling her that we’re a team and I have to do this. I have to strike while the iron is hot. I’m not so cocky that I think I’m always going to have this kind of focus. I always tell her, ‘Mom has to take this time while the light shines on me, because the light shines on you’.”
