While her more recent stories see her seeking salvation as one of the many defenders of Gotham City, Harley Quinn starts off as a sinister villain. Now, a dazzling cosplay recalls the bad old days of the Cupid Crime and confirms that Dr. Harleen Quinzel was truly terrifying before being redeemed.
Created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, Harley Quinn in Batman: Animated SeriesOriginally a “gangster mistress” type companion for a while with Joker, the character quickly gained attention and she made her official comic debut shortly after conquering the small screen. Deeney and Tim will talk about the character’s comic book origins Crazy Love, it is revealed that Harley Quinn was originally a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who was so fascinated by the Joker that she helped him escape and become a super villain. The most recent installment has seen Harley abandon the Joker and strike out on his own, first as a villain and now as a hero throughout.
Harley’s has come in a variety of looks over the years, from the familiar “Goth” look, through the video game adaptation, to the more Roller Derby-inspired look in the current comics. However, due to Harley’s enduring popularity, Harley’s original outfits are still iconic Batman: Animated Series, that’s the look costume artist Anastasia brings to life in her new cosplay. In a photo shared by chatsky.so photographer, Harley returns to her roots, burning down the house and using a funny big mallet that, although looks like a juggling accessory, it does. still used to hit anything that gets in people’s way.
Harley’s villainous era is still iconic
Anastasia and chatsky.so managed to capture the essence of Harley in the image above, adding her signature hammer to make them even more iconic. Perhaps most importantly, they made her scary. Harry has always been the Joker’s silly shield, but the character is also terrifying. A hot-tempered young woman making jokes and rolling around while conceiving a plan that still caused chaos and death was deeply unsettling. Photos by Anastasia and chatsky.so, depicting Harley smiling in front of burning buildings, or juggling bombs with a smile on her face, capture that creepy feeling perfectly.
Harley Quinn may have pledged to protect Gotham after escaping the Joker’s influence, but there’s a reason the city hasn’t forgiven her yet – and at the height of the crime, she’s like the rest of Batman’s rogues gallery, and this amazing cosplay celebrates that fact perfectly.
