The 2024 Critics Choice Awards further immortalized Harrison Ford’s action legacy with a career achievement award on Sunday night.
Ford, 81, accepted the award to applause from the audience after a video compilation showing some of his greatest film successes was shown. “First of all, I’m very happy to be here tonight to see what our business is turning into and all the talented people getting opportunities that probably wouldn’t have existed in the early part of my career,” he said. He said.
He continued: “I’m here because of a combination of luck and the work of wonderful writers, directors and filmmakers. I feel incredibly lucky. I’m happy for this honor and I appreciate it very much.”
Ford also took time to thank his wife, Calista Flockhart, for offering him “support.”
“I want to thank my beautiful wife, Calista Flockhart, who supports me when I need a lot of support,” he said. – And I need a lot of support.
Both Ford and Flockhart, 59, appeared to tear up during the mention of their marriage.

“I’m deeply fortunate to have had the opportunities I’ve had and I’m grateful,” he said before ending his speech by adding, “I’m not going to take up any more of your time. Thank you.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold presented Ford with the statuette during the CW broadcast, comparing the legacy actor to a “hypergiant star.”
“The hypergiant is so big that it can hold 5 billion of our suns, and they are so heavy that they pull other celestial bodies toward them,” Mangold said. “Sure, Harrison Ford is the star, but tonight I’m arguing that he’s the shifting hypergiant.”
He continued: “A star so big, it contains multitudes. A star so unique that it attracts other stars, a star so bright that it has warmed the lives of every one of us in this room, in our audience and, probably, on this planet,” he said. continued.

Mangold described the influence of Ford’s 55 feature films, naming American graffiti, Apocalypse today, Conversation, Blade Runner, Witness, Mosquito Coast, Working girl, Air Force One, Fugitive, Presumed innocenceand Patriotic games before presenting Ford with an achievement award — calling the characters “unforgettable and utterly human.”
During an unparalleled career spanning five decades, the dry-witted Chicagoan has made films including the epic Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, which have grossed nearly $10 billion worldwide.
This year, Ford starred in an Apple TV+ show Shrinkage, which earned him the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He also played opposite Helen Mirren in Yellowstone spinoff in 1923 and will soon make his Marvel debut as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: Brave New World.

In 2023, Ford was awarded the Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement on the new Indiana Jones the film’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where he paused to look at the film industry and the affection fans have for his work.
“I was just trying to stay composed,” he later told PEOPLE about the event. “The crowd broke into generous applause [and] it was positive, humbling and beautiful.”
