Hattie Hook News

In the upcoming drama Ten Pound Poms, which will soon be available on Stan in Australia and BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, first-look pictures of Michelle Keegan as Kate, Faye Marsay as Annie, and Warren Brown as Terry (The Responder; Luther) have been made public. The drama was written by Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic, Ordinary Lies), and it was produced by Eleven (Sex Education, Red Rose).

Hattie Hook as Pattie, Finn Treacy as Peter, David Field as Dean, Sophie Gregg as Tina, Cheree Cassidy as Marlene, and Rob Collins as Ron have also had images made public.

The six-episode documentary follows a group of British citizens as they depart from depressing post-war Britain in 1956 and set out on a life-changing journey to a very other corner of the globe. They have been offered a nicer home, better employment opportunities, and a better standard of living by the sea in Australia’s scorching sun for just 10 pounds.

But the ideal dream that the new arrivals have been offered is not exactly how life is down beneath. We follow their achievements and failures as they adjust to a new life in a new nation, far from Britain and familiarity, as they struggle with their new identity as immigrants.

Annie (Faye Marsay) and Terry Roberts (Warren Brown) are the two main characters in the play. They make every effort to provide for their family, but the deplorable living circumstances at the migrant hostel and the host community’s animosity towards immigrants put them to the test in unexpected ways.

They are not the only guests at the hostel who choose to suppress the facts. A young nurse named Kate (Michelle Keegan) arrives without her fiance and is determined to make up for her traumatic background. Bill (Leon Ford), who has lost his family’s business back home, will do anything to acquire a lifestyle he can’t support in order to demonstrate that he is living the Australian dream.

Teenager Stevie (Declan Coyle) plans to exploit this new experience to get away from his controlling father. Stevie has a rocky past. Veteran of the Indigenous Australian conflict, Ron (Rob Collins), fights with feeling alienated in his own nation.

Gaynor Holmes serves as executive producer for the BBC, while Amanda Duthie and Cailah Scobie serve as executive producers for Stan. Joel Wilson, Olivia Trench, and Jamie Campbell serve as executive producers for Eleven. Ryan Griffen, Smita Bhide, and Ava Pickett are all members of the writing team in addition to Danny Brocklehurst. Jamie Stone and Ana Kokkinos are the film’s directors. The television show will be marketed globally by Sony Pictures Television (SPT).
