Heartbroken X Factor Union J star cleared by cops after arrest over fiance’s tragic death fall from hotel window

X-FACTOR star Jaymi Hensley was left heartbroken last night after his fiance Olly Marmon fell to his death from a hotel window just weeks before their wedding.

Union singer Jaymi, 34, was arrested on suspicion of murder after Olly, 33, fell more than 30ft from their top-floor apartment on Sunday night.

But no further action was taken against the heartbroken singer, who was watched by 10 million viewers on the hit ITV show, as police referred the case to the coroner.

Officers appealed for any footage after Olly fell through a small open window onto a footpath in Wellingborough, Northants.

Guests at the Hind Hotel rushed outside to try and save Olly, but the stylist was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Jaymi, who had a UK top ten album after coming fourth on The X Factor in 2014, mourned the loss of the man he described as “my strength and my survival all these years”.

A source close to the pop star’s family said the tragedy was “unbelievable”.

Olly’s death is said to have come as the couple reunited after a period apart – in preparation for their wedding next month.

A source said: “The whole thing is just devastating. It’s a terrible tragedy. The police and ambulance crews arrived within minutes, but it was too late.”

Detectives have confirmed that they are no longer treating this case as a homicide after the results of a forensic autopsy confirmed that the death was caused by injuries sustained in the fall.

This meant that Jaymi Hensley was released without charge.

DCI Johnny Campbell said: “It is only right that an incident such as this is treated with the utmost seriousness, to make sure we do everything we can to understand what happened and to get the answers that are needed and wanted by those involved the others.

“In Olly’s case I can confirm that the evidence we examined did not support his death as a homicide, which has now been further confirmed by the results of the preliminary forensic autopsy report.

“Our initial findings and decision have been explained to Olly’s family who will continue to be supported by Northamptonshire Police as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

“The 34-year-old man arrested in connection with this incident has been released without charge and is now assisting the investigation team with the coroner’s proceedings.”

Olly’s family paid tribute to the 33-year-old as a “spiritual, gentle soul” who was “beautiful inside and out”.

Olly’s mum Julie said: “Words cannot describe the devastation and heartbreak I feel at the loss of my beautiful youngest son Oliver, Olly to his friends.

“I can’t believe I have to write this. No mother should have to do that.

“The relationship I had with Oliver was so special, he was my best friend.

“We talked every day. He called me mom, he called me his guardian angel.

“Oliver was so caring, loving, quiet and always put others before himself.

“He was a very talented hairdresser and he took that passion seriously.”

Olly’s dad Leigh Marmon said: “My dear Oliver, I can’t believe I’m writing this. I would give my life to save yours.

“I struggle with every emotion you can think of, sadness, anger, guilt, the list goes on.

“I know you knew how much you were loved. I was so proud of you and all you accomplished. You’ve been to places I can only dream of.

“Whatever you imagined, you achieved. When you were younger you were a talented athlete, musician and of course a hairdresser – your dream job.

“You won medals and prizes in gymnastics and hairdressing.

“Your life was too short, but you packed so much into it. You were such a kind hearted, gentle soul who was just so beautiful inside and out.”

‘RAY OF THE SUN’

Olly’s older brother Ben Marmon wrote: “Oliver Marmon you are my little ray of sunshine. You are my best friend. You radiate joy and excitement to everyone around you.

“You are full of creativity and spontaneous ideas for fun. You are the light of happiness in every room.

“You are so kind and caring and happy to walk in anyone’s shadow as long as everyone else is smiling.

“You are the bravest soul and no matter how different you felt, everyone always loved you. Never underestimate the difference you made and the lives you touched.

“I didn’t tell you enough, but I was immensely proud of you. Always my best friend and my little bear Bruva.”

Olly and Jaymi have been together since 2009 – before Jaymi starred on The X Factor alongside Rylan Clark, Ella Henderson and 2012 series winner James Arthur.

They initially planned to get married as early as 2014, and were finally set to tie the knot next month.

The couple was openly devoted to each other – they posted regularly on the Internet.

Just two weeks ago, Olly posted sun-kissed pictures of himself and Jayma on holiday in Marseille.

A few days earlier, they visited Scandinavia on a P&O fjord cruise – with Jaymi thought to have been acting for passengers on board.

Olly posted a picture of them together with the message: “Norway! You were epic! End and out! Round 2 on the way to Arvia Mediterranean!

“The best week with my man and 9 weeks and counting until we say I do!”

A RELATIONSHIP OF PURE LOVE

On Jayma’s Instagram page on September 24 last year, he posted a huge tribute to his fiancée.

The singer captioned the picture of him kissing the radiant Olly on the cheek with the message: “14 years together and 1 year until “Me”!

“Happy anniversary @ollymarmon! I think of many beautiful quotes when I think about our relationship so far, but one that really sums it up for me is from Her Late Majesty QE2,

“He was, quite simply, my strength and remained so all these years”! I love you irrevocably and I am so excited that in 365 days we will finally be Mr and Mrs!”

Jaymi – full name James Hensley – was a founding member of Union Ja in 2011 – although the group was originally a trio known as Triple J.

They auditioned for the ninth series of The X Factor, becoming Union J after bandmate George Shelley joined Jayma and bandmates JJ Hamblett and Josh Cuthbert.

The group signed to Sony Music subsidiary RCA Records, releasing their debut single ‘Carry You’ in June 2013.

Their self-titled debut studio album followed in October 2013 and reached number 6 in the UK Albums Chart.

They left RCA Records in April 2014 and signed to Epic Records. A second LP, called ‘You Got It All – The Album’ was released the following December.

George left the group in 2016 before Josh left two years later – leaving Jaymi and JJ as a duo, before the pair officially split in 2019.

They announced a reunion show at the London Palladium in 2022 to celebrate Union Ja’s 10th anniversary and a comeback tour – only for Jaymi to sensationally pull out before the show.
