Heather Dubrow Shares How She and RHOC Costar Alexis Bellino Bonded Over Their Transgender Sons

The Real Housewives of Orange County stars Heather Dubrow and Alexis Bellino talk about how they bonded off-camera around their transgender sons.

In an interview with E! News released on June 1 — at the start of LGBTQ+ Pride Month — Dubrow, 55, opened up about how she and Bellino, 47, found a special bond after Dubrow’s 13-year-old son Ace and Bellino’s 16-year-old son, Miles , came out as transgender.

Dubrow said for the exit that although she and she RHOC The costars “have known each other for a very long time … and haven’t always seen eye to eye,” revealed that “having LGBTQIA+ kids has definitely brought us closer.”

In March 2023, Dubrow revealed that her youngest child had become transgender and had changed her name to Ace. She then posted a picture of the beach on Instagram with “Ace” written on the sand, along with the caption, “We love you, our youngest son, Ace ❤️.”

Similarly, in October 2022, Bellino shared a post announcing Miles’ transition and name, captioning a selfie of them together: “Hey world, this is Miles. My transgender son.”

“He’s now a month short of 15, so he saw questions and comments about him on my IG. Miles now has a voice and asked me to make this post,” Bellino continued at the time, noting that he stopped posting on on social media “for this change in Miles’ life, but he is now ready to ‘come out’ and use this platform to stop any hate or questions.”

Although Dubrow has been away from Bravo for a while, she told E! News to which she decided to return RHOC 2021 “because I thought, ‘Hey, we have this great platform, they’re asking us to come back, wouldn’t it be nice to show our very normal family and maybe start conversations in other people’s families?’ ”

Ace is not the only one of Dubrow’s four children who is part of the LGBTQ+ community. Her eldest daughter, Max, 20, revealed she was bisexual in June 2020, and her 17-year-old daughter, Kat, revealed she was a lesbian a year later in a chain of family text messages. Dubrow is also mother to 20-year-old Nick, Max’s twin brother, and shares all of her children with her longtime husband, a plastic surgeon and Bad star Terry Dubrow.

Bellino, meanwhile, is also mom to 17-year-old James and 16-year-old Mackenna, Miles’ twins, whom she shares with ex-husband Jim Bellino. The couple finalized their divorce in 2018.

Dubrow told E! News that her daughter’s appearance in the family’s group chat is a “beautiful thing.”

“I came from a family that was in the 1950s and nobody ever talked about anything and everything was swept under the rug,” she said. “And I knew that if I was lucky enough to have a family, I would be the opposite of that. So I have to say I’m proud of them, I’m proud of myself, I’m proud of us as a family for the communication that we have.”

Dubrow added that she tries not to share too much information about her children’s lives with the public, noting, “I don’t like to tell my children stories for them.”

“It’s their journey and their stories to tell if they choose to,” she explained. “But when other people, unfortunately, want to label your children and tell their stories, sometimes you have to say something.”
