Heather Knight is an English cricketer who became the captain of the England women’s cricket team in 2016. She is a middle-order batsman. She became the first female player and the first England player to score an international hundred in all three formats of the game, with her 66-ball 108 against Thailand at the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s 2018 New Year Honors List. In 2023, she was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Heather Clare Knight was born on Wednesday, December 26, 1990, in Rochdale, United Kingdom (age 32 years 2022).
When she was young, her family moved to Plymouth, England, where she grew up playing cricket with her brother. In an interview, she said of her childhood:
My brother and I played in the back garden and we both joined the local cricket club, Plymstock CC. I spent most of my childhood playing in boys and men’s teams, but it wasn’t until I played four years for England and secured a professional contract that I really considered cricket as a potential career path. “
She attended Primstock School. She joined Primstock Cricket Club at the age of eight and went on to play for the club’s boys’ 1st XI team. She was offered the opportunity to study natural sciences at Cambridge University, but she declined in order to spend time playing cricket. She studied for a BSc in Physiology at Cardiff University (2012).

Knight’s cricket journey began with Primstock Cricket Club’s under-9 team, where she was the only girl in the club’s boys’ 1st squad. She plays in the Devon County Cricket League with Primstock’s men’s team.
She plays for the Diamonds, Sapphires and Emeralds in England’s Super Four cricket competition. At the age of 18, she became a member of the England youth women’s team. Knight became captain of the Western Storm team in the inaugural Women’s Cricket Premier League, also known as the Kia Super League (KSL), in 2016. She served as team captain in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She captained the Western Storm to championship wins in 2017 and 2019. She went on to represent the Western Storm in the 2020 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
Knight plays domestic cricket in Australia in the Women’s Big Cricket League (WBBL) and Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL). She has played for the Tasmanian Tigers in the WNCL and the Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes in the WBBL.
International
She made her ODI debut against India on 1 March 2010 at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, scoring 49 runs in her international debut. She was called up to the England squad for the tour of India following an injury to Sarah Taylor. In the same year, she was selected for England’s tour to Sri Lanka. She made her T20I debut in the second match of the series against Sri Lanka on 22 November 2010 at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Stadium in Colombo. She made her debut against Australia on 22 January 2011 at Bankstown Oval in Sydney. On 5 June 2016, Knight succeeded Charlotte Edwards as captain of the England women’s cricket team. On June 21, 2016, against Pakistan, she became the first female cricketer in cricket history to score 50 runs and take 5 wickets in an ODI innings. She captained England during the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup, leading England to win the tournament by nine runs at Lord’s. In the second group match against Pakistan, Knight and Natalie Sciver created the third-highest wicket partnership in the history of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, scoring a total of 213 runs. England defeated Pakistan by 107 runs in this match.
She captained England in the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, but her team lost to Australia by 8 wickets. On December 12, 2019, during England’s series against Pakistan in Malaysia, Knight became the tenth England female player to play 100 WODI matches. On February 26, 2020, Heather Knight scored her 1,000th WT20I run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 against Thailand. During the tournament, she scored her first hundred in WT20Is, becoming the first cricketer to score hundreds in all three formats of Women’s International Cricket. Knight’s 169-run partnership with Nat Sciver was England’s highest wicket-taker in WT20Is, with Knight winning the Man of the Match award.
On July 3, 2021, in the home series against India, Knight scored her 3,000th run and took her 50th wicket in WODI cricket. Knight captained England at the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup, where Australia defeated England by 71 runs in the final. In July 2022, she was appointed captain of the England team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket Championship in Birmingham, England.
