Heidi Stirrup News
According to three people with knowledge of the situation, the official acting as President Donald Trump’s eyes and ears at the Justice Department has been barred from the premises after making attempts to coerce staff into disclosing private information about election fraud and other issues she could relay to the White House.
A few months back, Heidi Stirrup, a supporter of prominent Trump adviser Stephen Miller, was covertly appointed as the Justice Department’s White House liaison. Top Justice officials knew of her attempts to gather insider knowledge about active cases and the division’s work on election fraud, the people claimed, and they instructed her to leave the premises within the last two weeks.
According to the people, Stirrup is accused of approaching department employees and asking they provide her information concerning investigations into things like voting fraud. They agreed to speak anonymously since they weren’t allowed to discuss the situation in public.
The initiative came as Trump continued to make unfounded assertions that he won the election and to assert—without providing any supporting data—that widespread voting fraud was the cause of his loss to President-elect Joe Biden.
Stirrup also attempted to interfere with the hiring of career staff members, a violation of the government’s human resources policies, and extended job offers to political allies for positions at some of the highest levels of the Justice Department without consulting any senior department officials or the White House counsel’s office.
Justice Department officials opted not to comment. It took some time before Stirrup could be reached for comment.
According to a statement from the White House, Stirrup was nominated by Trump on Thursday to the board of visitors of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Attorney General William Barr earlier this week told the AP that U.S. attorneys and the FBI had investigated claims of election irregularities but had not discovered any proof of widespread voter fraud that might have affected the outcome of the election. He declared on Tuesday, “To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.”
On Thursday, Trump responded to Barr by claiming that the Justice Department “hasn’t looked very hard” and that this is a disappointment. He didn’t go so far as to suggest that Barr’s tenure as attorney general would end.
When asked if he still had faith in Barr, Trump responded, “Ask me that in a few weeks.”
They ought to be investigating all of this fraud, added Trump. He also criticised Barr’s assertion that the majority of the evidence so far produced by the Trump campaign and its associates amounts to legal claims rather than federal offences.
