Some couples are hoping to add some luck to their marriages this year by choosing an auspicious wedding date to tie the knot.
New York-based astrologer Lisa Stardust tells PEOPLE that 2024 is a year of “growth and inspiration,” according to the zodiac’s lunar sign, the Wood Dragon, as she shares insights on which days this year will be especially “lucky” to get married — and what couples would pair up with. should avoid.
The year itself is well set for doves in love. “The Wood Dragon, known for fighting for what it loves, also makes it a great time to make commitments,” says Stardust.
As for when brides and grooms-to-be should consider walking down the aisle, the number 8 is especially lucky in the Chinese zodiac because it “symbolizes infinity,” says Stardust. “The eighth of August is a particularly auspicious day” for a wedding this year.
Most dates during March, May and June are considered “lucky” days to get married, with Stardust highlighting the following ranges in particular: 1-23. March, 25-31 March, 1-23 May and May 25-23. June .
However, Stardust – who has published three best-selling books on astrology – notes that couples should avoid the 4th, 14th and 24th of those months, as 4 is the number “associated with death” in the lunar calendar. Despite the year itself ending in a 4, she says couples needn’t worry: “The year’s numerology is an 8, which makes it a lucky time to get married.”

In addition to the dates in March, May and June that end in 4, Stardust shares some other time periods where it advises couples not to seek marriage.
“It is highly recommended that couples avoid getting married during a retrograde walk or eclipse. These periods are by nature very unpredictable, and the outcome of a marriage can be just that.”
Couples should avoid both times when both Mercury and Mars are retrograde, including April 1-25, August 5-27, and November 25-December 15. Those periods can be indicative of “an annulment of a contract or a marriage full of misunderstandings and misunderstandings,” she says.

As for the future, he advises couples not to get married between December 6, 2024 and February 23, 2025, when Mars will be retrograde. “It can mark a marriage that is full of frustration, anger and arguments,” she says of that period.
Other days couples should avoid are March 25, April 8, September 18 and October 2, all of which are eclipse dates, as well as August 14 and December 24, which she calls “times of indecision and frustration.”

Stardust adds that “picking an auspicious wedding date is a priority” for many of the clients she works with.
“To determine the ideal date, we often take into account the positions of the Moon and Venus since they are the most favorable celestial bodies for love in Western astrology. Additionally, we check for retrograde planets.”
