The young woman reportedly heard her mother scream as she called a behavioral health center to have her brother placed in the facility.
“He’s stabbing me,” cried Jennifer Crumrine. “He’s stabbing me.”
Kasey Crumrine, 27, who later recalled the incident to police, allegedly followed the screams and saw her brother, Connor P. Crumrine, 23, “actively stabbing” their mother, according to a probable cause affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE. Then she called 911.
A Florida family’s plans to take a cruise the day after Christmas were disrupted when Connor allegedly began threatening them on Christmas night.
“Connor began making statements to the family trying to teach them how to get into the fetal position and make statements about heaven and hell,” Nicholas Wrasse of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit wrote in the affidavit, adding that Connor made “a gesture gun at them.”
His sister, Savannah Crumrine, 25, later told police that Connor told her “to sleep face down tonight so he can take her to heaven and keep her from going to hell,” according to an investigator’s paraphrase of the conversation.
The mother and two sisters slept in shifts with the bedroom door locked, Connor’s sisters later told police. The next morning, the mother told Kasey she was skipping the family cruise so she could commit Connor to Charlotte Behavioral Health Care for mental health care, according to the affidavit.
But when Jennifer relayed the change of plans to her son, Connor “started putting off getting ready,” according to the affidavit.
Jennifer told her daughter Kasey to call the helpline, and while Kasey was on the phone, Connor allegedly began stabbing their mother, according to the affidavit. Kasey got off the center phone and went over to Connor’s knife, cutting her finger as she tried to disarm her brother.
Seeing the commotion, Savannah “then grabbed Connor and began actively struggling with him for control of the knife, during which time Kasey attempted to save Jennifer’s life” and called 911, according to the affidavit.

When the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol Unit responded shortly after 7:15 a.m. on Dec. 26, they found Jennifer bleeding from an open wound on her neck. Meanwhile, Connor also held a knife “over his sister, Savannah, in his bedroom while the two were actively arguing,” according to the affidavit, which noted he was “not actively using” the knife “at the time.”
After Connor allegedly ignored “multiple commands” from sheriff’s deputies, they tasered and detained him, the affidavit said.
Jennifer, 54, was taken to Fawcett Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries and eventually died. Kasey was treated there for a minor hand wound.
Savannah, who was stabbed in the upper back and had other minor cuts on her hands and arms, was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center for treatment, and Connor was taken to Shore Point Health in Port Charlotte for a minor wound to his hand.
Connor was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of resisting an officer without violence, according to his online arrest and court records.
Connor has not been charged in connection with his mother’s death, the clerk’s office at the Charlotte County Judicial Center confirmed to PEOPLE. Connor has not yet entered a plea to the charges, according to the clerk’s office, and has not been assigned an attorney.
At Connor’s first court appearance on Dec. 27, his bail was set at $710,000, according to the clerk’s office, and as a condition of any release, he was ordered to have no contact with his sisters and to have no firearms or weapons in his possession. property.
According to the no-contact order reviewed by PEOPLE, Connor is not to communicate “verbally or in any written form” with his sisters, nor be within 500 feet of their home, place of employment or vehicle or have any “physical or violent contact” with them or their property.
Connor’s arraignment is scheduled for January 29.
