Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie Both Share They Didn’t Go to Prom — Because They Weren’t Invited!

Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie missed a big milestone in high school — but not by choice.

During Monday’s episode Today the two co-hosts talked to guest Mindy Kaling about what they were like during their high school years. After the trio noted how “big” nerds were at the time, Guthrie, 51, raised her hand and said, “I didn’t go to prom!”

Kotb, 59, then raised her hand, making the same statement. The couple’s revelation stunned Kaling, who noted that she “went to prom” twice.

“Wait, were you asked or did you ask him?” Kotb said. “Because I only got a date when I asked. That’s why I’m asking.”

Guthrie interjected, “Me too!”

Awkward celebrity prom photos that are too amazing not to obsess over

This isn’t the first time Kotb and Guthrie have mentioned their absence from prom. On the previous one Today episode of the show that aired in 2020, fellow co-host Al Roker asked his co-stars if they had any special prom memories.

Craig Melvin remembered staying out “later” than he “should have”, which made his mum “not too happy”. But Roker (69) admitted that he didn’t go because he “couldn’t get a date”.

Sad, but I got over it, added Roker.

“I didn’t go to mine either, Al,” Kotb said. “I know. I didn’t!”

After Guthrie said that “nobody asked me,” Carson Daly also admitted that he wasn’t at his own prom.

“I’ll tell you what. For you watching, if you ever want to be a part Today show, prerequisite number one: don’t go to prom. I didn’t go either,” he said, before joking: “We’re a bunch of losers!”

Daly, 50, recalled: “I stayed at home and watched 60 minutes with my father and played golf early the next day.”

To which Guthrie added, “Guys, I think we learned something – high school jerks can do better! There’s hope, look at us!”
