Hoda Kotb talks about how Savannah Guthrie’s new book helped her get through the tough time of parenthood.
In Wednesday’s episode of the show Creating space with Hod Kotba podcast, two Today co-hosts discussed Guthrie’s new book, Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere. Kotb, who is mom to daughters Hope, 4, and Haley, 7, says the book allowed her to find a connection with one of her girls.
“You know what’s funny, I read the book when you first sent me chapter by chapter and I read it again last night when I was going through a rough time with my daughter,” Kotb shares. “And I was worried…am I enough? Am I doing it right?”
“And it’s so interesting because there’s a part here, I don’t remember where it is because I’m so dog-eared, but it makes a parallel about how God loves us and how we love our children. I’ve already read it a few months ago and it didn’t hit me, but last night it hit me like I was meant to be at that moment,” she shares.

Hoda Kotb revealed how her daughter asked why Travis Kelce pushed Andy Reid during the 2024 Super Bowl.
In the episode Today with Hoda and Jenna earlier this month, the mom of two talked to co-host Jenna Bush Hager, 42, about watching the Super Bowl with her kids. Her daughters, who are huge Taylor Swift fans, watched the game in support of Travis Kelce, but were concerned after seeing the 34-year-old tight end’s confusing behavior on the field.
“One of the things they didn’t like was on the sideline and my daughter asked when Travis Kelce pushed his coach, my daughter said, ‘Why did he do that?'” Kotb said.
“Like, why did he push that older man? But anyway it was one of those … he was frustrated that he wasn’t in the game, whatever, there was fumbling, all that frustration. But all the little kid saw was is very much a guy pushing an older man.”
“I know, you know what? I’m with Haley,” Bush Hager agreed. “I was Haley in that situation, I kept asking Henry, ‘What’s going on here? You want to be a team, and part of that is respecting the coach. That’s sportsmanship. And I’ve tried to teach that to my kids.’ ”
Kotb added, “Yeah, and it’s weird because I don’t think so many young girls were into soccer until this game. I don’t know if my daughters would watch it.”
The two agreed that many young girls watch the game of Kelce, who is currently in a relationship with Swift, 34.
This year, Kotb spent New Year’s Eve cuddling with her two daughters. All three were dressed for the festivities, and each wore headbands with the inscription “Happy New Year 2024”. Kotb looked chic in a black silk top and a long pleated skirt. The girls were both beautiful in all pink outfits.
The other photos were taken as the trio seemingly celebrated the moment the clock struck midnight as they threw ribbons around. For those shots, Kotb was dressed more casually, in a short-sleeved T-shirt and jeans.
“Thank you 2023 for the love and lessons. #grateful,” Kotb wrote in the caption of the pictures.
