According to reports, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield will be fictionalized in a TV drama series that will detail their tumultuous outcome amid Phillip’s departure from This Morning, with fans sharing their thoughts online.
After news broke that Channel 4 was reportedly developing a show based on the events involving the former ITV presenter who admitted to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with the show’s production manager, which saw him quit the morning show after 20, many took to social media to defend Holly and Phillip, stating that the TV drama was “not necessary”.

One person wrote on Xu, formerly known as Twitter: “Really?? This isn’t even necessary… more ways to be cruel to celebrities and people and inflame the public.”
Another person agreed and wrote: “It’s too early for a drama about what happened behind the scenes. It might also upset/nerve a lot of people at ITV.” The third asked: “Why the drama anyway?” A fourth wrote: “Stop the ground…I’m coming down.”

Phillip has stepped down from his longtime role as host This morning in June after tensions reportedly grew between him and co-star Holly Willoughby. Other This Morning regulars have also accused the program of a “toxic working environment” behind the scenes.

Shortly after Phillip quit his job this morning, published a statement in which he admitted that he had lied to his colleagues about the affair between him and the production manager. Holly then released a statement explaining that she had previously questioned her colleague and close friend about the affair, but was met with denials.
“It took time to process yesterday’s news,” she wrote on Instagram. “When the reports first came out about this relationship, I asked Phil directly if it was true and was told it wasn’t. It was very painful to find out it was a lie. Holly.”

Meanwhile, Phillip’s statement said: “While I met the man when he was a teenager and I was asked to help him get into television, it wasn’t until he started working on the show that it became more than a friendship. The relationship wasn’t wise, but not illegal. It’s over now.”

He continued: “In an effort to protect my former colleague I have not been honest about the relationship. But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning has fueled speculation and raised questions affecting him, so for his sake it is important for me to now be sincere.

“I am painfully aware that I lied to my employers at ITV, my colleagues and friends, my agents, the media, and thus the public and, most importantly, my family. I am very, very sorry, because I am for who I was unfaithful to his wife.”
Holly continues to host This morning as main presenter and is joined by many familiar faces from the ITV roster including Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle and more.
