Hollyoaks legend quits soap after Channel 4 slashes episodes and budget

A MAJOR Hollyoaks star has become the first big name to leave the soap after Channel 4 announced it was cutting episodes and budgets.

Actor Jamie Lomas – who plays gangster Warren Fox in the long-running soap – has told bosses he will be leaving the show later this year, The Sun can exclusively reveal.

The actor made the decision to leave after bosses announced that episodes would be reduced from five to three from September, with the loss of 135 jobs.

Lime Pictures, which produces the soap for Channel 4, has opened a consultation session and asked those who want to go to raise their hands.

Jamie, 48, decided it was time to leave and told his bosses last week he would be leaving at the end of his current contract.

A source said: “Jamie has been at the center of some of the soap’s biggest storylines and has been back in Hollyoaks for almost eight years now, which is a long time.

“It was a long period that he liked, but with all the changes that were happening, he felt it was the right time to move on.

“He told bosses last week and they are already working on his exit story.

“The door will remain open and hopefully one day he will come back again as Warren Fox.”

Jamie is currently involved in a twin baby storyline with Jennifer Metcalfe and Richard Blackwood in the first soap opera.

Mercedes slept with Jamie’s character Warren and Richard’s character Felix, getting pregnant with twins.

It was recently revealed that both men were fathers, each the biological father of one twin.

The plot is part of a series of new storylines introduced by new executive producer Hannah Cheers as she fights to get the soap back on top.

A spokeswoman for Hollyoaks declined to comment.
