Police have launched an investigation into the murder, and several parts of the city center are currently cordoned off.
Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias, from the Serious Crime Unit, which is leading the investigation, said: “This is an absolutely shocking incident where a teenager has been stabbed to death in a busy city centre.
“We have a dedicated team of detectives working on this investigation and are supporting Thomas’ family at this incredibly difficult time for them.
“I would urge anyone who saw what happened or has any information to come forward and speak to the police and help us bring those responsible to justice.
“We are aware that there are images and videos circulating on social media, please refrain from sharing such clips and contact the police instead.”
Chief Hob Hoque said: “We appreciate that this incident will be of concern to the residents of Bedford and we will have a visible presence in the town with extra patrols over the coming days.
“Knife crime has no place in our communities and we want to reassure the public that we are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding this horrific violence and locate those responsible.”
