How Did The Night Agent Season 1 End? Revisit Peter and Rose’s Final Thrilling Moments Before Watching Season 2

Warning: Night agent spoilers for the first season!

In a fictional universe Night agentthere’s a phone in the basement of the White House that never rings—until one day it does. The call sends low-ranking FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) on a wild chase to find a dangerous government mole and thwart an assassination attempt before it’s too late.

As Peter and tech entrepreneur Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) slowly uncover a plot to oust President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett) and expose the high-ranking official who covered it up, the first season ended with quite a few loose ends. Only Vice President Ashley Redfield (Christopher Shyer) and White House Chief of Staff Diane Farr (Hong Chau) have been brought to justice for their roles in the assassination attempt, while their suspected co-conspirator Gordon Wick (Ben Cotton) is still on the run.

But the biggest question mark is Peter’s new role as Night Agent and what it means for his budding romance with Rose. Buchanan said TV Insider in January 2025 that the characters’ relationship status is still up in the air in Season 2, which premiered on Netflix on January 23.

“She feels that he’s not the same person, but I think she knows deep down that he’s still there,” the actress said. “He’s just so wrapped up in work and that’s all he can see and that’s all he’s focused on.”

The scope is expanded to include her after their original plan to kill Omar Zadr (Adam Tsekhman), a foreign political figure with a controversial past, is foiled by Peter. Although Farr helped the two co-conspirators cover up the attack on Zadar, she was excluded from their new plans to try to kill him a second time – along with the President.

Fortunately, Peter and Rose arrive at Camp David just in time to prevent President Travers from boarding Marine One, which is rigged to explode on takeoff. Everyone survives, and the conspiracy is revealed. The only downside is that Wick got away with sneaking into his plane before the explosion.

After saving her from assassination, President Travers promotes Peter to the role of Night Agent. But since the job will involve a lot of travel across continents — along with fighting bad guys and eliminating threats to national security — his romantic future with Rose is uncertain.

Ryan said TV Insider that at the beginning of the second season, Peter and Rose are living separate lives and haven’t spoken in months. Although she tries her best to adapt to her new role as the head programmer of an advertising company, a mysterious call from Peter throws Rose into chaos once again.

Although Buchanan claims that the feelings between the two characters are “definitely there,” Peter’s emotional unavailability and responsibility for Rose’s safety could complicate their dynamic in Season 2.

The second season Night agent shows Peter on the other end of the line for that ominous phone in the White House basement. Only now, the mole isn’t hiding within the walls of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, it’s built into the Night Action program itself.

While it’s hard to trust anyone under these circumstances, Peter will have to rely on old friends like Rose and new allies like Night Action veterans Alice (Brittany Snow) and Catherine (Amanda Warren) to uncover this new conspiracy and get out alive.

Ryan also teased that TV Insider that Peter and Rose’s reunion will happen in Season 2 after she receives a “mysterious phone call that has her worried for his safety.”

Both seasons of Night agent are available to stream on Netflix.
