Moana is the main character in Disney’s 2016 animated film of the same name. Moana, the daughter of chiefs Tui and Sina, was born in the island village of Motunui with a genetic love of the sea and travel. When her island was threatened by life-threatening darkness, the ocean chose Moana to cross the sea and save the world—with the help of the shape-shifting demigod Maui. Moana is the twelfth official Disney princess in the series.
Moana Age and appearance
Moana is 16 years old this year, has a slim but muscular body, which sets her apart from previous Disney princesses and heroines. Her eyes are brown, she has bushy eyebrows, plump pinkish brown lips, and long wavy black hair. Moana usually wears her hair loose, only occasionally tying it up when sailing.
All Moana’s clothing is made from tapa, wild pineapple, leaves, feathers and other natural resources found on Motunui. Her usual outfit consists of a short shirt made of red tapa with a layered and seashell pattern around the hem.
Moana’s appearance
She wears a red sash made of the same material as her dress, made from chopped wild pandan leaves and layered tapa and has a slit for ease of movement on the go. She wears a necklace made of green leaves and roses when leading to Motunua. After Tala’s death, Moana wore a blue necklace containing Te Fiti’s heart.
Moana also wears a Samoan-inspired tuxedo with a red Tapa top and red tassel skirt, white Pandanus collar, skirt and belt, red feather cuffs and green leaf bracelets, both has a white shell around the edge.
The suit is complete with a traditional Samoan headdress made of chopped red pandan leaves, white feathers, seashells and other natural objects found throughout Motunui.
Moana’s final outfit in the film is the travel dress she wears in the epilogue. Moana’s travel outfit is made from fresh leaves and plants, unlike her previous outfits, which were all made from dry materials.
Moana’s top is made of scarlet leaves to represent her new position as the head of Motunui. Her belt is made of red tapa, with a strip of green leaves cascading down the layers of her cut-out Pandanus dress. Moana wears a necklace made of red and green leaves encrusted with white flowers, as well as a leaf cuff on her left arm and right ankle.
