Phil, the popular talk show is coming to an end. Following the current 2022-2023 season, the fan-favorite series, presented by Dr. Phil McGraw of the same name, will come to an end after 21 successful seasons.

The main host is a $460 million American TV star, author and former psychotherapist. When the daytime talk show debuted in September 2002, he was a main character. According to People, the host terminated his most recent contract with CBS Media Ventures, the company he worked for for five years. Dr Phil McGraw said in an official statement to the publication:
“I have almost 25 years of great experience on daytime television. We’ve helped hundreds of guests and millions of viewers with everything from addiction and marriage to mental health and parenting. This has been a great period in my life and work, but as I transition from day to night, I want to achieve more.”

Dr. Phil was born in 1950 in Vinita, Oklahoma and raised in Texas. In Overland Park, Kansas, he attended Shawnee Mission North High School. The presenter entered the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship in 1968, then transferred to Midwest State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
He earned a master’s degree in experimental psychology and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of North Texas. After graduating in 1979, the presenter worked as a private physician for many years until founding CSI Courtroom Science, Inc. In 1990, Dr. Phil’s television career began in April 1998 with a regular appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah first met the host when she hired his legal firm to help her prepare for a 1998 court case against a group of Texas ranchers over her statements about mad beef.

The presenter’s presence was so successful that he began appearing on the weekly show as an expert on love and life strategies. He quickly became a much-loved character, which helped him create the show Dr. Phil in 2002 through Winfrey’s Harpo Studios. According to People, over the past two decades, the presenter has participated in more than 4,000 shows with more than 20,000 guests.
Dr. McGraw entered the weight loss market in 2003, promoting his shakes, vitamins and energy bars “Shape It Up, Woo Woo” on the show. The Federal Trade Commission thoroughly investigated this, prompting the presenter to withdraw the additional products from the market the following year.
He was also sued by people who used his stuff and found no benefit. The case was settled by the presenter in 2006 for more than $10 billion. Dr. Phil and his son Jay McGraw co-created the spin-off series Doctors in 2008. Hosted by Travis Stork, the show focuses on medical topics, with a panel of medical experts answering viewers’ questions. The show aired from 2002 to 2020. The host has also written numerous books on relationships, health, and other topics, including Life Strategies, The 20/20 Diet, and Relationship Savings. Steve LoCascio, head of CBS Media Ventures, commented on the show’s departure and the show’s end:
“Phil is a valued partner and member of the CBS/King World family, and while his show may be ending in 21 years, I’m pleased to announce that our relationship will not be.”
Then he said:
“Phil was the driving force behind one of the most popular daytime talk shows in history. We look forward to working with Dr. Phil’s library for many years to come and welcome new opportunities for collaboration.”
The company also said that the presenter will soon reveal information regarding the “strategic relationship at the most important time” that will launch in 2024. The presenter went on to say:
“I’m motivated to engage with a wider audience because I care deeply about the American family and am committed to helping restore our sense of purpose and core values.”
Despite the fact that Dr. Phil is no longer on the air, the host will continue to work on his current projects, including serving as an executive producer on CBS’ So Help Me Todd, the television series Bull, and hosting two of his podcasts, Phil in the Blanks and Mystery & Murder: Dr. Phil’s Analysis.
