On July 27, television writer Norman Lear celebrated his 100th birthday with his family in Vermont. He also had some advice for his fans which he gave via a video on social media.
In the video he says:
“As I sit here in this beautiful part of Vermont with my beautiful daughter, Kate Lear LaPook, who is carrying this incredibly smart and tiny smartphone camera filming me. And I mean, my God, it’s a miracle to be alive today and to be 100 years old tomorrow. Can you hear what I’m saying? I will be 100 years old tomorrow. That seems as likely to me as “I’m 99 today.”
Then he said:
“I’ve been thinking about breakfast and I guess my idea for breakfast at the moment is… now. Every individual who sees me now – some see me months after I say it, some will probably see it years later – but whenever you all see it, that will be the moment you see it because now is the moment I say it.”
Lear ended the film by stating that living in the moment means living between the past and the present, as well as between the hereafter and the future.

Norman Lear produced, designed, wrote and developed about 100 programs. He rose to prominence in 1970s comedies such as All in the Family, Maude, Day by Day, Good Times and others.
