Outlook was founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith under the name Hotmail, but was later bought by Microsoft in 1997 and relaunched as MSN Hotmail. It was later renamed Windows Live Hotmail as part of the Windows Live suite. However, Microsoft discontinued Hotmail in October 2011 and relaunched the email service in 2012 as 2012.
