To block email addresses in your Yahoo Mail account, follow these instructions:

1. Sign in to your Yahoo email account and click on the mail icon located in the upper right corner.
2. You will see your inbox, click on the ‘Settings’ icon on the top right corner.
3. Then click ‘More Options’ and you will see a new window.
4. From the options that appear in the left column, click on ‘Security and privacy’.
5. You’ll see the title as “Blocked Addresses” followed by (+ Add). Click ‘Add’ to add the email address to the blocked list.

• Activate the Yahoo spam filter

You can then enable a spam filter for your Yahoo account to redirect such emails from Yahoo, follow the steps below:

1. Sign in to your Yahoo account and click the mail icon in the top right corner.
2. You will see your inbox, click on the ‘Settings’ icon on the top right corner.
3. From the options given in the left column, click on ‘Filters’.
4. Then click ‘Add new filters’ and in the right column enter empty fields like ‘Filter name’, ‘Set rules’ and ‘Select folder to move’.
5. Click ‘Save’ and that’s it.

How to disable Yahoo spam filter?

In case you need to disable Yahoo’s spam filter, you can do so in Yahoo’s spam filter settings as explained below:

1. Sign in to your Yahoo Mail account and click the mail icon.
2. Next, click the settings icon in the top right corner, then click “More options.”
3. Click ‘Filters’ in the left menu and a new page will open. Click the ‘+ Add’ option and type ‘no spam’ in the Filter Name text box and ‘@’ in the text box next to Sender Contains. Make sure the ‘Inbox’ option is active for the ‘Where mail will be delivered’ option.

How do I report an email as spam to Yahoo?

Even if you have blocked certain email addresses, you will still receive spam emails. However, you can report an email to Yahoo to prevent such emails from being sent to you in the future.

For classic Yahoo mail

Here is how to do it:

• Select the check box next to the message in your inbox that you want to report as spam.
• In the toolbar above your inbox you will see ‘Spam’, select it to move the message to the spam folder.

For Yahoo Basic Mail

Here the steps are almost the same, just the interface is quite different,

• Select the check box next to the message in your inbox that you want to report as spam.

• Alternatively, you can mark an individual message as spam while reading it, as follows:

1. Select ‘Actions’ on the toolbar.
2. Press “Report as spam” and then select “Apply”.

For the Yahoo Mail app

If you view your email in Yahoo Mail, you can report individual messages as spam there and then:

1. Open the email you want to mark as spam.
2. Then select the three dots to the right of the sender’s name.
3. Select ‘Spam’ from the drop down menu.

What if Yahoo’s spam filter doesn’t work?

If the filters are not working correctly or the spam is not being sent to the correct folder, please check;

• There should not be a conflicting filter on top of a non-functioning filter.
• Do not use negative criteria like “does not contain” instead of positive criteria like “begins with”.

Tips to avoid spam email

You should also try to avoid receiving spam emails in the future by keeping the following in mind:

• Avoid replying to an unknown sender.
• Do not share your email address with random people.
• You do not need to respond to emails that ask you to unsubscribe from services that you did not subscribe to in the first place.
• Do not trust websites that claim to help you with spam, as some of them may be scamming you.
