Spotify has an interesting feature called Friend Activity. Allows you to see what your friends are listening to. So if you’re wondering what your friend’s favorite song is or if you’re looking for fresh music, checking your friends’ Spotify activity is a great way to do it.
On Spotify, you can see how long ago your friends listened to something and what they listened to. That. By default, anyone who follows you on Spotify can see what you’re listening to. Similarly, you can also see what the people you follow are listening to.

How to see what your friends are listening to on Spotify?
On the phone
Here are the steps to view your friend’s Spotify activity on mobile:
- Open the Spotify app on your phone.
- Look for the small icon representing the person in the upper left corner of the screen. Tap it.
- Then tap on your name where it says ‘View Profile’.
- You can see a list of options. Select “Followers”.
- You can now see a list of your friends who follow you on Spotify.
- Select one to see what they’re listening to.
Note: You can check your friends’ playlists and the artists they’re listening to in the mobile app. But what you see may depend on what your friends choose to share. For example, if they only share their playlists, that’s all you can see.
On the desktop
Here are the steps to view your friend’s Spotify activity on desktop:
- Open the Spotify app on your computer. Look for your profile icon. It’s usually at the top right. Click on it.
- Now select ‘Profile’ to open your profile page.
- You can see a tab that says “Followers”. Click on it. A list of your friends who follow you on Spotify will appear.
- Click on any profile of your friend.
- Now you can see what they are listening to.
Note: When using the desktop app, you get more details compared to the mobile app. You can see not only their playlists and recently played artists, but also who they follow and who follows them.
Steps to show or hide your activity on Spotify
It’s easy to show or hide your Spotify activity. This is how it is done:
On the mobile app:
- Open Spotify and go to “Settings & Privacy”.
- Scroll down until you find “Social Networks”.
- Tap ‘Private session’ to hide your activity.
On the desktop:
- Click on your profile icon.
- Select Private session.
You may see a padlock icon indicating that your session is private. This hides your listening activity from others. It will automatically end after six hours. To show your activity again, simply turn off your private session and enable the ‘Listening Activity’ feature in the Social section.
