Have you ever come across a cool or interesting plant and weren’t sure how to figure out what it was? If you have an iPhone, you’re in luck—you can easily identify plants from your Photos app with Visual Look Up. In this article, we’ll teach you how to use Visual Look Up to identify plants on your iPhone and give you some options for third-party apps if you’re looking for a few more features.
- You can use Visual Look Up on any photo, whether it’s a photo you’ve just taken or one that’s been sent to you.
- After taking a photo, tap the “i” button below the image to see if it recognized anything.
- Tap the “Search” button to see which plant your iPhone has identified.
Take a photo of the plant in question. Make sure you get as many plants as possible in the photo. Try to avoid other plants in the background of the picture, if possible.
- You can do this on any photo, including photos sent to you by other people or photos you’ve taken previously.[1]
- You must have iOS 15 or later to use Visual Look Up.
Tap the photo you just took. In the lower left corner of the Camera app, you can access the Camera Roll. Tap this picture to see your recently taken picture.
- If you want to identify a plant from a photo someone sent you, tap the photo to open it, then tap the download button in the bottom right corner. It looks like an arrow going into a square. You will then be able to find the photo in your Camera Roll.
Look for the “i” button at the bottom of the screen and tap it. It’s the middle button, between the favorite/heart button and the “Edit” button. If the “i” button has sparkles, it means Visual Look Up has identified something in your photo.
- Visual Look Up is only available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.[2]
Tap the “Look Up” button after tapping the “i” button. If Visual Look Up identifies a plant in your photo, it will display a leaf icon and say “Look Up – Plant”.
Tap one of the Siri Knowledge results to learn more. You can see more information about the plant directly in your Photos app, and Siri Knowledge will provide web links to more information about the identified plant.
