How to Wear Platform Crocs 3 Ways (and Still Look Cute, I Swear)

I used to hate Crocs.

I’m sorry, it’s true, but I was 19 years old and confident, I liked what I liked and I hated what I hated. Despite people insisting they were comfortable, I couldn’t get past the way they looked, so I refused to wear them. Now that I’m an old millennial, comfort comes first, and needless to say, I quickly (and happily) jumped into Crocs.

I have a growing collection of Crocs, including several pairs of platforms, so the Dylan Platform Clog immediately caught my eye. I refuse anything that will give me some height (short lady issues) and these have a 2.2 inch platform.

Here’s what it’s about. If you’re looking at these shoes and thinking, “This is nothing to look at, how can I make these comfortable shoes cute?” It’s all about style and confidence. (Also, you should wear whatever you want.)

I got Dylan in Lava, aka bright orange, and I can admit that the color won’t be for everyone. The shoes also come in white, black and wheat if you want a more neutral shoe. You will definitely find them easier to fit into your wardrobe, but what I love about Leo is that it provides that fun in clothes. If I’m going to wear a chunky shoe (yes, chunky), I might as well decide on a color, you know?

I’ve played around with styling shoes that separate you for a few different occasions to give you some ideas on how to wear them in your world.

I don’t really follow the fashion rules — I wear navy blue and black, I wear horizontal stripes even though a boy told me it made me look fat when we were in seventh grade, and I wear all the things Gen Z says I’m “wrong.”

So naturally, I have no problem pairing these casual bright orange shoes with a classy all-white two-piece for a garden party look. I actually love that juxtaposition. But in order not to push too far into the realm of this-doesn’t-go-one, I chose a set made with cotton grommets so that it still felt a bit informal.

The shoes added the pop of color that the outfit called for. I wanted to try a monochromatic outfit with shoes, and for the summer I decided on white instead of another color. Black could have pushed me into Halloween territory, which I just wasn’t feeling

Let’s face it, running clothes are the easiest way to style Dylan. You can combine anything you want. I was originally going to wear yoga pants, but it was 90 degrees in New Jersey, so I opted for bike pants instead. He complemented the sky blue pair with orange shoes (it’s all about the color wheel here) and a white T-shirt completed the look.

I’ve worn these shoes for trips to the grocery store, walks to the post office, and rides to train stations to pick up my out-of-town friends. They are excellent slippers for any situation.

At first I was worried about riding on those platforms, but then I remembered a.m a millennial and wore foam platform flip flops covered in sequins to high school every day of the week (except for the days I wore my flame covered platform sneakers). The real ones know exactly what kind of shoes I’m talking about. Needless to say, riding in these Crocs was a breeze.

For an in-between look, jeans are an easy option. I claim that jeans go with anything and everything. Since this is such a prominent shoe, I tried to avoid tapered legs here, instead opting for a wider leg. I chose a contrasting splash of color for the top to tie in with the orange and keep the summer theme alive.

Is there anything not to love?

I’ll admit that these shoes make my feet sweat, but that’s solely my problem, because I didn’t wear socks with them. They also create a “farting” sound due to the way the skin of your feet rubs against the unique Croslite material — another problem that can be solved with socks. So all in all, both of these problems are my problems, not Crocs problems.
