He planned the Watergate break-ins and other covert operations with Liddy for the Nixon administration. He served 33 months in prison for burglary, conspiracy and wiretapping. After he was released from prison, he lived in Mexico and then in Florida until his death.

Dorothy Hunt’s birth name was Dorothy Wetzel. She was born in Ohio on April 1, 1920. After World War II, she was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency. She was posted to Shanghai, China where she met E. Howard Hunt. They both returned to the US and settled in Maryland.

Crash of Flight 553 Watergate Killed cashier

On December 8, 1972, United Airlines Flight 553 crashed, carrying E. Howard Hunt’s wife, Dorothy, and 60 other people. 48 people died.

A private investigator in Chicago, Sherman Skolnick, testified at a National Transportation Board hearing about the crash and was able to obtain government records of the crash.

He testified that sabotage, murder and robbery were involved in the fatal end of United Airlines Flight 553. Skolnick condemned the hearings committee, saying:

“The board is Nixon’s puppet — like the Warren Commission, it will ignore its own record to continue to say that the Watergate plane crash was an ‘accident.'”
